Photo of your Sovereign

The straight rod asm is all Minelab parts two S rod asm cut and joined,GT handle, and a X-terra arm cuff. The balance is near perfect. This setup is headed for the auction block soon.

Nice clean looking unit. What's that thing on the top of the control box on the left side? Is that a remote PP jack?

Critterhunter, the control box on this Elite always seemed loose.I took the box cover apart and discovered the anchor for the screw had separated from the box.I drilled both anchors and ran the screws through the unit. This mod is more secure and I used the current anchors as spacers.I have an Original with a remote plug, which I should mount a switch on the handle.

here is a picture of my sovereign xs 2a pro with the home made straight shaft i made for it. i no longer have this machine sold it on ebay a few months ago. i now own a minelab explorer machine but i would definitely go back to a sovereign machine for a backup.

Hi Critterhunter !
What type of bag ( shown in your photo ) that your using for the water set up.

It came with my GT when I bought it use and I think Minelab throws this bag in as a package deal with a lot of GTs. It fits the unit like a glove but I can still manage to get it in even with a plastic bag around the control box. It features a clear lid that can be used to completely cover the machine for when it's raining and such, but I haven't closed that lid since I already am using a plastic bag. It will allow you to hip mount the box by sling it over your shoulder, or can be adjusted for chest or side chest mounting, which is the way I like using it while water hunting by slinging it around my neck and sticking my left arm through as well. Keeps it up over the heart area so it's good and high (I'm 6' 2" tall). I don't use the bag for land hunting as I use a light weight rig I built and just mount the box on the shaft as normal, but I sure am glad I kept the bag now that I'm doing a little water hunting.

Hey Ron, just curious why you just didn't use CA or epoxy to re-glue the screw pegs back into place to keep the looks good for re-sale value?

Sovereign Fan, nice looking machine. Is that one of the larger Excelerator coils? If so, is it the 12.5" or the 14" and how did you like it? Also, would like to hear how you mounted the V-Clip for the meter on top of your grip.

Here is my modded XS-2. The hand grip is a bicycle add-on grip. The straight tube extension is riveted to the stock upper shaft and was made from a thin wall rigid steel paint roller extension tube. The arm cuff is the stock cuff with the ground rest removed. The paint is Krylon outdoor matt black fast drying lacquer; very tough. The coil is a stock 10 inch. The ground rest is made from PVC pipe fittings. All parts were scavenged from the detector as I bought it or from around my home shop. The paint was left over from a previous project. I bought the detector for $350 U.S. Total cost of mod is minimal.

LLoyd,and Rajae,great photos.

Thanks Ron

I have a used BBS 800 coil coming and also am looking at getting a used meter that works. I will mount the meter on top of the grip at a good angle for ease of viewing. I am also looking into a disc/all metal switch mod.

lloyd0161, great looking machine. It's a minor suggestion but if you wrap your coil around the shaft above the hand grip it will slightly help balance the machine better. Every little bit helps. I shoot for having the machine balance on my finger right at the grip.

tape on speakers to keep sand out! S12 coil and stock Tornado.

here is a closeup of the grip. the grip is a bar end that you can buy for mountain bike handle bars. i put a rubber grip over it to give it a more broader cunftable grip. the end of the bar i knocked in a block of wood and screwed on a small legnth of Aluminium pipe to it. then i drilled and riveted the v clip to the pipe.
the coil is a 12.5" Excelerator and yes it was much better than the stock coil. you gane about a inch or so in depth as well, pinpointing a target is a bit more difficult though
