Performance drop-off and intermittent overloading

In the UK we are having a spate of similar issues with the V3.

The first thing we notice is the recommended Rx slowly (over a period of weeks or months) falls from 14 or 15 to 6 or 7 (on the same sites and with same conditions). When this happens we do the standard coil test (Rx 15 & Tx boost ON, V3 held at waist level) and Overload occurs with all available coils (D2 and 6X10 in my case) and with various programs. Checking in a known EMI-free location (my garden) produces the same result but it clears after the V3 is left switched off for an hour or so. One V3 and its coils have been replaced already and now I and another user have the same issue. Has anyone over there had this deterioration issue? I know my batteries are OK. I am wondering if there could be a static issue or a need for a "battery out" reset?

I have Ramases, the exact same thing your talking of.The reccommended RX fall off over time and the overload.I never found it to go away by switching the unit off or removing the battery though. In both cases it has happened to me,the coil was the issue, not the machine. Also both times it has been a D2 coil.Although this coil has had its issues,Im not giving up on it.When the D2 works like it should,it works very good.

There were issues with the epoxy used. Check and then get the coils replaced. Rob

Rob, was the same epoxy used in the 10" DD and 6X10 coils?
Thanks.

Just posted elsewhere kinda the same thing. Use to be able to run rx @15 and disc. all the way up with tx boost on.
Now can only manage rx 8 with tx boost and disc. on 85.
Recommended rx is now down to 4 at all times. ?
I'm going to call whites to ask about this and see about the v3i upgrade.

Exactly the same problem that I and a number of others have had or are having. My mate had his coils replaced because Whites UK assumed it was coil failure (but as I have said before - how likely is it that BOTH coils would suddenly fail at the same time?). It didn't fix the issue and eventually he was sent a new V3 and since then all has been fine and he is now sorted.

I'm having a similar problem with my (somewhat) new V from whites. It just goes insane pretty frequently these days, and I'm mostly having to hunt in my same old spot with Rx of 6-7 disc around 75 where I used to hunt with 13+ Rx 80+. Additionally, the machine is only stable in salt mode at these settings, wheras it used to work at those previously mentioned setting in the same park in 3 freq regular. I adjust transmit frequency and try to go to single frequency to avoid EMI and the machine becomes unusable, I've also brought down recovery delay thinking less time analyzing the signals might help eliminate this insane falsing.. My partners machine, in the same place, same coil, on the same hunts at the same time is perfectly stable at 13+ and 80+. Machines can vary a bit, I know. But this appears to be a change in my own machine over time. I will try my other coils this week to see if the problem persists and I will also unplug the coil next time to see if its coming from just the box.

New 2D arrived today. It is 100% better than my old one. I am back to Rx 15 and Sens 90/65. So it was a duff coil. Just need to check the 6X10 now and get the i upgrade done!

Good deal! I love the D2 when it works like it should, but they can be extremely frustrating when they start to fall off.
