Past weekend coppers!

Mark kus

Well-known member
Well a local open space field was mowed Dave and I hit Dave got a bunch of old flat butters and a KG copper.
I hit 2 KG coppers and a Draped bust and a 1891 Indian and a lot of square nails and a few buckles.
Monday I stopped at another field that’s open space land donated to the towns for public use which opens up a ton of old fields and properties to detect and working a big iron patch I hit another copper a matron dates are long gone no silver but still fun hunts

Such a shame coppers don't hold up in the ground like silver. Sooo many beautiful coins are toasted.

I always wondered about open space land. Didn't know if you could hunt them, Who do you check with for permission ??
Not a lot in my area. But there are more in rural farm area's. I have a funny feeling the farmers wont let you dig !!!!

Sweet finds Mark!

As far as farms are concerned, you never know until you ask. The ground is being turned every year. So as long as you don’t leave holes, and don’t dig while there are crops in the ground, you can’t harm the field, and might actually help the equipment if you remove some metal obstructions.

If your county has a PVA website, you might be able to search a parcel map for property owners. Failing that, neighbors might be able to help with contact information if they know what you’re doing.

Edit: Sorry, meant to quote Donna (NJ) here, but did not include the quote.
