Overwhelmed with Legend

After reading the 32 page manual for the Legend, I’m somewhat overwhelmed. I’m not really sure I would utilize all of the different options. Can you pick one of the four search location modes and get to detecting? I’m sure I’m going to tweak a few settings, but not many. Anyone with experience or advice on this? Thanks

One of the nice things about a detector like The Legend is that you can pretty much just turn it on & hunt. You can make adjustments if you want to & always go back to default settings if you need to. So turn it on & enjoy learning with it.

As JCR TX said he is exactly correct the Legend can be as easy as you want or you can venture into the different settings and make it as difficult as you want (I do not recommend this approach being new), but if you change something you need to think about why you are making that change.

if you do change things you can do a factory reset now in the Legend and take it back to the beginning or to factory settings

The factory settings are pretty much turn on and detect settings, which is where I would start to just get a feel for the Legend, the factory default settings are pretty good to start out with, as you get more acustomed to detecting and the language the Legend is speaking start venturing into making changes, that is really the only way to familiarize yourself with a detector change things and reset to factory defaults when something is not working, the other thing I recommend is to set down with the manual with your Legend booted up and go page by page and just check out what each button does, you do not have to change anything but it gets you started familiarizing yourself with what each button does

got back into hobby after years using simpler detectors and all this new technology seemed overwhelming but nice thing about the legend is it is one you can grow into.
You don’t have to use all the features I don’t yet.
It can function as a turn on and go basically with nice simple features that allows you to use it about everywhere for anything and has features that you can fine tune it for experienced detecting.
Just highlight the basics in the manual to get you going then you can always go back and learn to use the rest as you want

You will be surprised how fast you start learning and its not so overwhelming anymore.
Then you start using features you never thought you would use.
I actually just started playing around more with the tones. Even something as basic as the pitch. Personally i don’t like the high fluty sound and adjusted the sound to what I prefer and the volume.
Doesn’t hurt to have many customizable features

Really the only settings that seemed somewhat confusing was the tones sub-menu, which you cannot avoid if you want to even change # of tones. We’re in a wintry period and I haven’t had it out yet, but I’m ready to go as soon as weather permits.

It was very overwhelming at first so much so i didn’t want to mess with them but shortly after understanding things more since i was just a beep and dig person basically i just went in and changed the tones in a few seconds and was like, well that was real easy, can’t believe i missed out all that time by overthinking everything

I’m part of the latter group, but if I’ve managed to handle the equinox, Deus 2 and becoming familiar enough with the legend now. The only things I haven’t tried with the legend are tone settings beyond # of tones, and saving user programs. In time I’ll figure those out as well, but I know enough to get started.

I recently dove into those exact settings that for a long time were a bit complicated so I thought.
I didn’t care for the fluty high tones so i just went in to the tones ine section at a time with number of tones first, then volume and then pitch which I changed to ones I prefer. Was going to do tone breaks differently but decided i liked them how they were.
Just go in and out you don’t even have to change anything and you will be surprised how easy it actually is.
Just think if you panic you can always just hit the pinpoint or settings button a couple times and it will exit you back out to the main menu and you are back where you started.

My humble suggestion is to select the mode you wish to hunt in. Then set the Operating Frequency you will use. Most people say you can then just detect. I disagree in that you should do a ground balance for the area you are hunting. It requires you to hold the GB button down and pump the coil towards the ground a few ties. I would then suggest that you hit the settings button, point the coil out away from your body and hit the Pinpoint/Accept button. This runs the machine through noise cancellation. Once that is set, listen to the machine. If it is chattering, lower the sensitivity from 30 down to around 25-26. This should eliminate the chattering. Then you can detect. Don't be afraid to ground balance again after you cover ground and also don't be afraid to noise cancel every now and then.
There are lots of other things you can set but take your time to get used to what you have just done to setup your detector.

I swear sometimes just a tiny adjustment on the Legend opens additional doors and thus finds in places I just completed earlier.
