To beat the heat I was out and swinging by 6:30 am. I had one goal in mind. To go back to the site where I left a target in the ground beneath a large root. It would be the second site of the day. First site was new to me. Actually, I had been there before but only made one quick pass. There were a few coins so I decided to try it again some day, and today seemed like the time. First three signals were wheat cents. I began to salivate. Managed 59 coins in just under two hours and those three wheats were the only three old coins I found. Since I was at 59 coins I decided one more coin for a nice even 60 was in order. Got the nice 925 "Peace" ring which hit on quarter. I can't tell you how many times my last dig has been something really cool like a ring or a silver coin. I know what you're saying. I can control the last find of a particular hunt and you're right. That said, I know that at least 15 or 20 times in the past I've said this is my last target for the day and it turns out to be a keeper. Anyway, onto the site where the silver quarter I was sure I had left in the ground turned out to be a rusty old square nail. For some reason I was able to retrieve it easily today. I got four more wheats hoping for some silver. Thirty something coins in 45 minutes. One more site. Thirty coins in 45 minutes and it was too hot to continue. One of the wheats isn't pictured as it's soaking trying to uncover the date. Some dimes are missing from the photo too which I tossed into the tumbler to round out and even batch of 300. Somewhere in that mess is coin 4000 for the year. Also only about 30 from 35,000 lifetime. Not that I'm counting!
