In England we find 'beehive' thimbles. Exactly as the name implies. They are thick, heavy and the dimples are irregularly spaced.
They are hand punched. We also find thimbles like the one you have pictured, Probably hand punched and a couple of hundred
years old. They were made from cast bronze.

Venture to say that this is a tailor’s thimble, and has some age to it potentially. Not everything from years back was manufactured by a machine. From a quick search I did - “Why is this thimble missing its top? This particular type of sewing aid is known as a tailor’s thimble and is made without a top to allow the tailor’s thumb to more easily manipulate the fabric”.
