Well it's been about a month now that I've had the AT Pro. The pinpoint button began sticking a week or so ago, but wasn't enough of an issue to warrant sending it back, and then this happened....

Hunted 4 hours Sunday morning with the AT in Pro Mode, iron disc 35, max sens, and worked beautifully landing me my nicest copper yet. Went to a local park later in the day and hunted for 10 minutes same settings and it worked great, turned off the AT and moved to a new section of the park. Turned it back on and it was oddly silent... waved it over a quarter and nothing, noticed I had almost all notches disc'd out so I opened em all one by one and still nothing... opened notch 80-85 and it began screaming uncontrollably, just a non stop blaring 80-85 tone. Clicked that notch back off and it stopped, back on and screaming. Wouldn't pick up any metal in Pro mode, so I switched to Standard mode and it worked fine!! All settings in standard worked A-OK, back to Pro mode and screaming.

Well I went through all the normal breakdown double checks, switched to new batteries no difference, reset factory settings no difference, disconnected and reconnected coil no difference, wiggled coil and headphone cables no difference. So I'm stumped... I called Garrett Sunday and they returned the call Monday, went over symptoms with the service tech and he was shocked at what was wrong and said he had never heard of that problem before. So yesterday off it went to the factory. They were very nice about sending it in for service and said I'm entitled to a free gift as well which is nice, also claiming it to be back in a bout a week. Hopefully they just replace the unit with a new one since I have that issue and the pinpoint problem. I kinda don't want the broken one back but I just want my AT Pro so whatever.

All in all I'm thoroughly pleased!! Also notified the tech that the pinpoint button is an issue with quite a few people on the forums that I've seen. So if it is a prob PLEASE call Garrett and let them know!! The tech said if they receive enough complaints about that problem they will modify the pinpoint button to permanently fix the issue.

Yep, my pinpoint went on the fritz first rattle out of the chute. Sent it in and it worked fine upon return. Next hunt, worked fine till halfway thru the hunt, then it started falsing all over the place. Back to the Garrett factory for new coil and connector. Has been working GREAT since!! Probaly no need for a new rig, sounds like it's fixable. The sent me a Texas Twister on the first repair and a Garrett digger on the second. 'Bout covers the cost of shipping. Thank goodness I've got about 20 backup detectors!!

There is no excuse for shipping faulty detectors in the numbers Garrett has been doing. My new AT PRO when back and its been returned. However I have no confidence in using it on the job of keeping the counties beaches free of metals in the sand.
