One more question

Thanks for the suggestions, David. I've already tried most of them. All these rocks come up at a solid -8 unless they are very large then they bounce between a -8 and +48 or just a solid +48..in ground AND when I pick them up and pass them over the coil by hand. The soil also seems to be composed of small pebbles and bits that are attracted to my magnets. If I touch a magnet to the ground it comes up furry and caked with these little rocks (Which are different than the big rocks that are sounding off). If I use disc mode to disc them out it still doesn't solve the problem.. as I am not bothered by their sounding off. I will miss a lot of targets due to constant nulling if I do that. I've tried prospecting mode with iron mask full out at 20 and the rocks still get a good signal...I've tried Beach GB and it auto sets at 1 and still doesn't negate the rocks. Tracking goes all over the place as I watch it in GB mode. from 6 bouncing all the way up to 27 at some points and everywhere in between. Target ID stability doesn't really help.... It actually makes some of my coins that I'm getting iffy signals on.. ID worse and lock on negative ID. Does that give any info on the ground...the beach GB auto setting to 1?

I will give the 10.5" MF DD coil a try and if it doesn't mitigate these issues I will just resell and get a different machine... I love the X-Terra and know it's a good machine, but I have a feeling that most of the ground in this area is like this...These rocks are everywhere....so I assume the ground is just as bad.

OK, that iron mineralized ground sounds hotter than Australia!! If the round 10.5" MF(7.5 kHz) DD does not pan out, they are in high demand, so both would be easy to sell. Then go to Minelab FBS or BBS machine. Like the Sovereign GT, Safari, or E-Trac. Or go to a Pulse Induction machine.

One other note, Monte(an expert & authority on most all detectors and especially Tesoro and he is very respected here on Findmall) from Oregon said the Tesoro Lobo is one of the very best detectors in iron.
You may want to contact him for advice: Monte=> Email: MonteVB@comcast.net Or by a PM.

I also heard the Lobo SuperTraq was one of the best to handle hotrocks being in Disc. Mode at about 1.5 or 2 on the dial in Alaska from another true expert Steve Herschbach.

Hope this helps!

Thanks David. I was looking at the Tesoro Lobo awhile back. I plan on getting a 10.5" MF coil in the next few days and seeing if it helps me. If it doesn't help me I will either resell or just cope with digging lots of -8 deep signals in hopes of hitting the lotto :-D I'm a patient man.. oh yes I am lol.

Just want to thank all of you who responded and gave me advice. I appreciate it.

I got my new XT705 today. The stand is 3 inches long, compred to 8inches for my other XT70. The numbers jump all over, just like my XT70 that I sent in for the second time. I'm using the 9 in Concentric, :cause I sent in my 101/2 inch DD with the XT70. ,Needless to say, I'm ticked off, to put it mildly.

Hi there Utuk,

this is just my opinion and experiences .....

I have used my Xterra70 (with DD coils) here in Australia in some very heavily mineralised ground a few times, both coin and gold prospecting and I have to say that it is very trying to use on ground like that.
It is very chirpy/noisy ...so much so that it not pleasant to use and the falsing slows you down a lot.
Depth seems to suffer also.
A headache and ringing in the ears is usually the end result for me.
For day to day use in low to moderately mineralised soil ...I love my Terra.

I would lean towards the Etrac but i would want to try one out first on the mineralised ground before I purchased it.
good luck whatever you do.

Thanks for the input, Terra. I can't really afford an etrac, but I will probably resell and get a Safari or Explorer if the MF 10" DD coil doesn't help me.

bubber,
The ID's jump around on in air tests???? Mine are very solid ID #'s in air.

Well... I received the 10.5" MF DD coil yesterday. I tested the coins I buried and I did see an improvement in target ID. It now registers the quarter at 6" as a 46 on every other pass. It still comes up as -8 too, but I think I would dig this signal. For some reason the copper penny I buried at 7" is IDing better than the quarter at 6". There must be more mineralization in the ground with the quarter. That's my only explanation. Either way.. I'm pleased with the X-Terra 705's performance with the DD coil in this bad ground. Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I think I'm gonna keep it. :)

Good, but quarters are suppose to come up as 42. The big DD it's heavier than the stock coil, so you could get a Doc's Swingy Thingy bungee, I have one. Also try putting that big DD coil and/or middle shaft(S curved one) on backwards as see if it helps with the balance, experiment.

Try it for a while and definitely keep it if it works, but if not get a Safari.

Yeah I noticed that ALL coins are coming up at higher ID #'s in my ground. The penny at 7" is bouncing in the 40's and sometimes hit's -6. I noticed the same thing happening with my Fisher F2. Dimes on my F2 show up in the 80's range and they should be in the 70's. Around 72 actually. I resigned myself to just getting good higher numbers instead of iron numbers on good targets. I just have to dig everything in this ground I guess.
