found this on the 1862 home site, Hand forged,but the weld broke and they tried to fix it but the fix failed and it got thrown out

I dont think they did have wedges, I found so many like that , and they pound them untill the buckle right where the handle is , Kinda dumb the way they worked things

Curious did that sound like iron ?
Or did ring high ? I've never dug one.

It sounded like Iron i was in all metal with the Tracker 4 .digging out all iron to unmask targets, you just never know

A couple of friends and I detected around a house that dated back to 1879 and in total we found 7 axe heads and three wedges.
It is odd how many can turn up around old house sites… at another very old house site, I found five myself.

I always joke that if I detect around an old old house site and do not find any axeheads or harmonica reed plates, it has been detected by others..

that is so true , but it shows how popular harmonicas where in the day , and how dependant on fire wood they where, if they detect our yards what will they find , lawn mower pins, tabs, computer chips ,
