Lets say you are after a certain coin to fill your bucket list....for example, a 3 cent nickel.....coin id at 6 on the etrac. Why would you hunt an open screen when you want a coin with a vdi of 6 ? Too many signals will drive you crazy !
Go to a farmed field or very old homestead....set your disc at 3 to 8 open co.....and disc down to 22 fe...all others blackened out.....
Now you can dig all signals that hit on your etrac if you want or in other words a "beep and dig pattern."
Odds are now greatly in favor of you finding that 3 cent nickel...in the right location with 1850's coins...at an old area that is capable of 1850's targets.....Do you get my drift ?
Patterns to match the area and what is possibly in the ground spells success.... a do all pattern like an open screen will get you rivets...nails....shotgun shells.... aluminum cans...lead....zinc...copper....why have them in the pattern when all you are targeting is the 3 cent nickel ?
OK....I Know I HAVE SAID MY piece now and as I am getting older I will let out such stuff to the younger detectorists.....common sense seems to eluded a lot of people who think one pattern is a do it all for every situation....
I will grow silent and let you all hash it out for as long as I can stand to be quiet...Good Luck to all no matter what detector you use....HH
