... and likely stay with it. Hut digging can take a lot of time for anything from nothing found to lots of great relics.
Craig this ground is REALLY HOT. A nail will sound / read like a quarter .... a quarter like a nail. A button or bullet may just make your machines threshold stutter or null a tad ... or might give you a head banging signal .... depends on where you are standing. You can be at one spot and get a good solid accurate signal 10 to 12" down on a 3 ring mini ... walk 10 feet and can't read a 3 ring mini laying on top the ground due to the rapid change in mineralized soil ..... "powdered iron"! I guarantee you Craig, you've never detected in ground as bad as where we will be hunting. It will frustrate the heck out of you at first.... perhaps all three days.
Go in all metal and dig everything that makes your machine beep or threshold tone null or flicker. If you wait for good signals you'll be missing some great relics. Once you do dig a keeper target, slow WAY down and work a pattern in that area until you are satisfied you've dug all signals in that area.
Yes, I know where Vernon lives .... it's far away from the hunt but I'll give you a push pin for your GPS if you need one. I have his phone number so you can at least call him to tell him all about the relics you hopefully will find.
I'm leaving Tuesday to fly up to PA and finalize some paperwork on my dad's estate then leave Thursday morning for the DIV with Keith. I'm looking forward to getting together with all you guys.
