do at the fort, if that goes well and I think it will I'd Surface Hunt the second day also. Go with your gut feeling Craig and use a smaller coil and swing it a little faster then normal, there won't be as many targets as your used to at the fort or in a park, remember, this is virgin land.
Would I keep my coil right on the ground, no, it will slow you down, I would just keep it right above the ground moving at a steady pace covering some ground at the same time, set your sens all the way up to 31, remember Craig, you have a Minelab
You can take my Joey if you like also, great field hunter, ask Brian
If you are doing well the first and second day then do what is working for you Craig and stay with the Surface Hunting, if not then think about hut digging, don't waste a lot of time over a target trying to figure it out, either dig it or move on, remember, any signal in a virgin field could be a keeper
Most people would disagree with me but thats ok, I'll match my finds from the Mellon Field hunt with any of them, my finds were over 200 years old all found with a small coil (Joey) moving at a pretty good clip, ask Brian
I am pulling for you Craig, I only wish I could see your face when you pull your first civil war bullet or relic and remember, Virgina is where it all started bud so you may come across a find from the 1700 or late 1600
I know I don't have the field experiance as others do here but when I did hunt my only one field I listen to Brian and found a pocket full of musket balls from the 1700's and coins from the same era, good luck bud and always remember, your in a virgin site so any tone could be a keeper, either dig it or move on, your Minelab will tell you so
