The only thing I ever lost was the plastic clip-on stand from my detector, and luckily I found it a week later when I went back to the same site. I make it a point not to wear any jewelry when I go detecting, and I either keep my keys in a zippered pocket or clip them onto my belt with a caribiner. I can deal with coming home without any good finds, but not with ending up with less than I had to start with.
I was hunting a local open space area and I found what seemed to be a mini time capsule. It was a pewter drinking mug filled with assorted Treasures. They included three pieces of a sorority mug, a bracelet that had the dates someone was born and died and made them 28 years old, there was also a big gold class ring with a big Ruby in it. It was kind of eerie the way I felt, kind of like I was intruding upon something that was meant to remain buried. As much as I thought the gold ring could bring me a few bucks I reburied it. A year or so later A buddy of mine was getting into metal detecting and we hunted the area and didn't find anything so I brought them to that spot. He actually found that same Treasure Trove or time capsule and I shared the story with him afterwards and he agreed to rebury it. We were hunting in somewhat fresh snow and the ground hadn't Frozen yet. I got back to the car and realized I lost my pin pointer and we backtracked everywhere we went and couldn't find it anywhere, it was almost like it disappeared. I haven't been back to that site but I still think about it when I'm trying to get some money saved up for a new toy.
