Last week after finding my first Walking liberty half I was showing it around and sharing with friends. One of the guys was a little upset about not coming along so we planned an all day outing that every one could enjoy and that could accommodate work schedules.

We knew the approximate location of a dance platform 20 miles from town. It had been in use from roughly 1900 to 1938. This meant no pull tabs and hopefully some good old coins. 2 of us had v3's and and the new guy had a Whites Spectrum. The area had been pounded over the years and had given up 300 coins with around 4 barber coins. The new guy "Vince J", knew the location pretty well and I had a rough idea as to where we needed to be. So the 3 of us set off. After half an hour of pavement driving and 20 minutes of slick muddy road we started are walk back in the forest. I was a short walk of 1/2mile and we suited up and fired up the detectors. I was optimistic as always and was hoping we would find so much that we would not be able to carry it all.

Nothing for the first hour, nails and rusty beer cans. I searched the perimeter and kept praying that I would find something. I finally got a good repeatable signal at 4" and pulled out the little shovel. Solid 85-88 vdi, pinpointing tight. And out popped this beauty. 1901 S Barber Half.

I let out a good whoop of joy, and started looking for my buddies to see what they had found and share my find. They had not found anything:thumbdown: I told them that they could come over and I would show them where I found it.

After a little lunch we walked over to the find location and went back to work. Well about 15ft away I got another 83-85 vdi pinpointing tight at 5". I had been swinging the coil 6" off the ground because of all the brush and swamp grass tufts that I was fighting with. I pressed the coil down into the cutgrass clumps and new that I had another good one and called Vince J over to watch the dig. Out popped this 1915 s Barber quarter.

We hunted for a couple of more hours but light was fading and we where all tired. These 2 coins where the only silver of the trip and I wish that we had all found some, but I cant complain. I was running the v3i in deep silver with pretty much the stock settings.

What a great way to start off the new year. Congratulations.

Congratulations on the great silver finds!

those are some really beautiful coins, 20 plus inches of snow and frozen ground is a little tough to deal with for the detecting itch I've got going. Congrats on the great finds!
