Off Balance

I don't see how ML can have a printed copy of the manual, because it would be obsolete right after the next update.

That's true but addendums are not hard to add. Has :minelab: updated the online manual? I'm still using the original download.

Yes it has been updated with the saltwater and pinpoint lock settings.

Thanks James.

Yes thanks to all of you. I am one too that had the box checked since getting the CTX. I was also wondering why I hadn't found anything deep with it. I was using the mindset of my 705 by turning on the tracking which I thought would be the same as enabling the GB. Quick test here in the house and CW bullets air testing at about 12" Now I feel better.

Again thanks to all that replied

I run my machine in ground coin all the time because of the highly mineralized ground in my area. I was running "Manual" ground balance by selecting the enable ground balance option and then hitting the start GB and pumping the coil like you do on many machines. However, Des mentioned that if you don't get this right or your ground changes you can get out of balance quickly. So I deselected the enable ground balance option and let the machine do it. However, I may try enabling again in an effort to get deeper targets in my bad ground.

Now that second from last sentence above was a doozy, kind of a double negative positive kind of thing and it gets to the root of the problem here in my opinion. That is this section of the manual is not as clearly written as it should be and the fact that so many were fooled, confirms this. I know the second paragraph states you shouldn't enable in most conditions. Still, I had to read the section a few times to be sure. This confusion could be aleviated by inserting the word manual in the enable ground balance wording and I would suggest updating the software so on the machine it reads Enable "Man." GB. That simple change would save a lot of people the headaches they are having now.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

M/L should have incorporated this info on the status bar. Don't know if it could be fixed with an update or not.

Nothing to fix.....ML is clear on when to use or not use GB. If their instructions are not followed then the mistake is the operators.

Dave

Have to disagree with you on that Dave. May be nothing to fix on the hardware side but the manual has caused confusion.

If it was as clear as it needed to be, then not so many would be so confused. When a manual and instructions leave users confused, it is not clear and something needs fixed. Minelab is the communicator it's their responsibility to be clear with that communication.

Most coming to a new detector in this class know they want to ground balance. What is not obvious is that without checking the box you are using auto ground balancing and that checking it enables manual ground balancing. A procedure that you then must take additional step to do correctly.

So checking the box without doing the manual procedure steps leave you worse off than leaving the box unchecked and in Auto Mode.

I have hunted with GB box checked I will try it in auto I have just done A Manuel GB every 15 min it's or so thanks for the info

Where in the manual website does it state it will ground balance itself automatically and continually ? My explorer xs will auto balance itself and continually but I don't think the ctx will. You will have to pump the coil a few times then the ctx will automatically ground balance for you while you are pumping your coil but not continually. I ground balance every time I turn on the ctx here in Cali the ground can be bad in some areas. Been finding lots of silver up to 8+ inches.

thanks for the info. I almost skipped this thread and I am glad I didn't. I took have been dialing in my maching and came across this setting last week. I hunted with it over the course of a couple days and did not find any silver as well as any deep coins in an area that have produced several silvers for me already this year. Could be coincidence and I will know for sure when I go over the same area next week.
Thanks

Would there be any difference where you have saltwater and high concentration's of black sand in some areas ?
