Oddball detector frequencies

Here is an interesting program about Tesla and his ideas, it is about an 3/4 hour long, but well worth the time:

Anyways, back to prospecting.

Well there you go. I just thought the Fisher Goldstrike was a terrible unit because the ground would throw it's response straight back up into you're face, rendering it 5/8th's useless.
Now I know it had very little to do with a badly designed unit, but instead it was the result of it's own Mechanical Resonance bouncing back to slowly destroy the unit.

" Unfortunately Tesla died alone in his New York apartment at the age of 86. When he died the United States government gained possession of Tesla

It was for me too Steve. I paid near $1800 for it!

You know when you get that feeling a detector is going to be a real good unit, just by first sighting of it on a brochure, or in a magazine add or on the dealer shelf ? Like the original Gold Bug, the terrific GM3 - which had the best looking box I've ever seen on a unit and so sweet to operate. You just knew they were going to be top machines for the purpose they were made for.
When I first sighted the Goldstrike the feeling was opposite, I knew it was going to be bad, so the fault lay with me there. It's embarrassing to say it, but I simply couldn't make head nor tails of it.
The gold stinger didn't fool me though, nice looking box and all, as I'd already had the A3b and learnt my lesson.

Thanks guys, those were some very informative and enlightening discussions. I learned a lot about all the pitfalls of trying to develop a better detector, it was an eye-opening experience to say the least. I still can't help thinking that maybe we need to begin thinking "outside" of the current box and start going off in a totally new direction when it comes to trying to develop new metal detecting technology. We now seem to have pretty much hit the preverbial stone wall with the technology that we are currently using and when you see what I-phones can now do with the tiniest wisp of a signal traveling thru miles of space, I find it hard to believe that the technology doesn't now exist for metal detector companies to begin doing the same. The Dues was a step in the right direction, now we need to expand well beyond its performance level.

Howdy Dave... May I ask a question; who designed the Fisher Gold Strike? It sorta took a "bashing" but it may have actually
been a pretty good machine as I know one fulltimer who found a little over 4-ounces while using it. I still have mine and I have
often wondered why the either the low or high tone could not be operator canceled by flipping a selector switch ? Best, js

Howdy Dave... ya aren't gonna claim any involvement with the Fisher Goldstrike? That I understand.
I have one with both coils... For sale... only $1,000 USA as I understand that mine is said to be the
only one left that has not been wrapped around a tree. :smoke:

I thought since this was my first detector that I was the dummy that could not make it work. I dropped out of detecting for a couple of years as I thought that it was some kind of a cult that used metal detectors. Marv
