Not hearing very much about new 705..is it good ??

Not implying it isn't. Just doesn't sem to be many posting about it..

I sold my X-Terra 70 last fall in anticipation of a new detector coming out, my new X-Terra 705 is ordered and on its way. The added features on the 705 are what I was looking for, I hope it works well on the salt water beaches (wet). I think the depth & target ID will be pretty much the same as the 70 from what I have been reading.

I made a post last week, comparing my X-70 to my new X705. In that post, I commented that the backlight wasn't something I would use. Nor the 4th Pattern. I am still analyzing the benefits of the tracking GB offset. And I just recently started "investigating" the reverberation audio I hear on super deep targets. By super deep, I'm talking about targets that are a couple inches beyond my X-70. Weather is clear and I hope to put in a few more hours tomorrow. HH Randy

I tried the new X-Terra 705 last week and found it to be a little different to the X-Terra 70. Its features are much the same as the 70 - only 'new and improved'. The new Backlight is possibly a little dimmer than I had expected and doesn't seem quite as bright as the E-Trac by comparison but it works and it's a benefit to the night detectorists who won't have a problem at all (it's still bright enough at night!). I'm still conducting a few tests of my own but I feel as if the 705 locks onto a target a little more sharply than the 70. The sensitivity is certainly there and its similar enough to the X-Terra 70 that any users upgrading will find it easy. So far the improvements are slight but welcome. I'd like to know if anyone who has used both finds the 705 to be slightly more sensitive than the 70 using the stock coil. I think it might be slightly more sensitive but this was without a side by side comparison at the time.

First impression was 'meh' but now I think I like it. Not enough to sell my trusty X-Terra 70 but I'd buy an X-Terra 705 in a heartbeat if I had to replace it due to an accident or theft. The X705 coming after the X70 is like adding chocolate sprinkles to a donut.... it just makes everything taste even better although not everyone may notice the difference at first. By revamping the X-Terra range, just about every coil is accepted by every detector (except for the HF DD 6" which is not accepted by the X-Terra 305). That's great news for the detectorist.

Cheers,

Marco

Des in Ireland, says no problem on the wet sandy beaches.. I trust what he says and he has a video out beach hunting too.. so I am just biding my time and then I am getting the 705 specifically for the wet sands at the ocean..

My 705 seems about an inch or so deeper than my 70. it's like theres a mysterious tonal quality out at the end of the depth that the 705 gives at the point past where the 70 goes quite.

Marco,

The 305 does accept all the HF coils regardless of frequency or winding configuration.
However, it does not accept the Low Frequency coil.

I want to point that out to avoid any confusion that might arise.

Heya Des,

I have the latest Brochure right here in my hand (2 days old)... Says here (on page 22) that the only coil not accepted by the X-Terra 305 is the 6" D/D 18.75khz (HF) Round coil.

Do you North Europeans have a different set of coils up there?

Cheers,

Marco

Hmmm... seems the visual chart printed on the "X-Terra Coils" page (Page 22) in the newly released Minelab Product Catalogue has an error in it. Ouch!

So Des, is that information above still correct?

Cheers,

Marco

They must have put a dot in the wrong location, unless this is a brochure for Oz only, as they state on their website they can offer different configurations in different locales. Even with that said, I doubt they would offer different software versions in different countries. In the brochure posted above on this forum the LF 3kHz is the only one listed as not compatible with the the X305, and checking the ML web site says the same.

Finally in this recent post of mine I was using the X305 with the 6 inch HF DD and it is a deadly combination in high iron trash.:)

Cheers Marco,

Sure sounds like a typo!

Thanks for alerting us to that - I'll look into it.

PS: On another topic: when can 'we expect' another BlockBuster vid from you?

Good Hunting

?????????????????????????..............Couldn't consider this great forum as slumming...:bouncy:

Hey Des
Yup... looks like a typo (on the graphics chart with the ticks showing which coils are compatible).
Well I hope to put something together shortly. I've been filming each time I go out and bought a better camera and a larger external computer hard drive to allow me to do more video editing. Just saving up for a few new toys now ; )

Would you believe that work has been so busy that I can't seem to get the time off to get out there? Unprecedented heatwaves and floods have made a mess of my recent attempts to get out detecting. Have not wasted my time idly though and have been carefully researching new areas to visit. Hang in there. Crazy times.

Cheers!
