Non Whites Coils i.e SEF

Advent

New member
I am now at the stage where I think I need to obtain another coil to go with the stock coil as issued with the Whites V3/i.
There is a company in Bulgaria that makes the SEF range of coils
Has anyone any experience of using a SEF coil with a Whites V3/i.
I was recommended to buy the 18x15inch (45x38mm) version only I feel that is too big.

I have attached an image showing the type of coil I am interested in, the size is 12x10inch (30x38mm).
Now this SEF coil aint much bigger than the Whites Stock coil hence the reason my detecting friend suggested the larger 18inch coil.
Your opinions please.
Thank you.....

I REMOVED THE ADVERTIZEMENT FOR A NON SPONSOR.

I myself like the 10x12 SEF coil I do not think I would want to use a bigger coil than that to me to heavy. I hunt in larger open area and the 10x12 is great for that . :twodetecting::whites::cheers: I got my coil from Kellyco.

Many of us use or have the 10X12 including myself but the only reason I use it is because I already had one from my DFX days. I don't think that I would buy one to replace the stock D2 but I enjoy using it. It seems to be a bit quieter and I get a little better coverage than the D2 but I really don't think that I get much of a depth advantage with it. Kellyco is the US distributor of SEF coils and a sponsor here.

:clapping:

Coincidentally, after a year of using the 12x10 SEF coil, I decided to give the D2 coil another try this afternoon. I see a definite depth advantage with the SEF. I also found it is easier to balance at higher gains than with the D2. Using RX 12, AM 74 and Disc 92 I had a very hard time balancing the V3i with the D2. I also did not think it was as quiet as the SEF. The D2 would false more frequently when bounced around. I also had a harder time distinguishing deep iron from good targets. I wonder if I just have a bad D2. It passed the TX Boost test.

One distinct plus for the D2 is that it locks on VDI numbers, while the SEF tends to have less consistency with VDI numbers. They tend to bounce around more with the SEF. It is also a bit easier to pinpoint with the D2.

No doubt the SEF goes back on tomorrow!

Hey guys, not sure if you know, but they are making V SEF coils for the V3i here in Europe. I believe they are made by Detech which is the same company there in America?

If they are not available in the States, they are available online NOW for delivery to America. Gary in the UK is in the process of testing them on his V3i and I look forward to his review (I think there will be one.) I can't post the link, but just do a search for "S.E.F. for White's Spectra V3 30cm. X 25cm. DD /12" X 10" DD/". They cost 143 Euro plus shipping (didn't see the price there) and ship in 4-10 working days (so I think is isn't cheap). You can insure your order as well.

I might look at getting one next season, no sense in me getting one now. Sounds like a great coil though.

I just received a 6x8 SEF coil from Kellyco for my V3i, looks like they no longer include the coil cover with the coil. Just a heads up, now I will have to order the coil cover separate and pay extra shipping to get it.

Yes I checked out Gary's site and he indeed has tested the V3i SEF coil. Hmm, wonder why they are not selling them here? He didn't mention if you could run Boost but did say it ran RX15.

I would call customer service first, could have been an oversight.

Larry,

I called Kellyco, they have quit including the coil cover with the coil. I asked them to update their site to reflect the change, the lady I talked to said she would let the website people know.

Joe

I'll be darned,............. thanks for letting me know. In a way it makes sense because some people don't use the cover and it saves the company $$ by not including it, but the order taker should have let you know it is not included when you ordered.

That review is not the SEF coil as he told me 8 days ago that the coil was on the way and that he was going to test it. Unless the review is between now and then, it's not the same coil (though he uses the regular SEF on the V3i exlclusively and with a recovery delay of 18-25 and sens very very low!).

When I get new info I'll post it here.

As you see gentlemen there is only one person in the UK I know off using the SEF coil with a V3i.
I have spoke to Gary and he assures me the ( I'll call it the) Mk1 V3 SEF Coil does work, however
the company who makes these coils have brought a Mk2 version. I have a feeling this newer coil has not yet hit the States yet.
By the way please note the prices of these coils are in EUROs and not US Dollars.
Plus on purchase a coil protecter is issued with the coil at no further charge.

I would make a snapshot of the page before they change it, and then call them and tell them since it is not what you ordered you will call the credit card company and dispute the charges. I bet they send you one.

From another forum:

Last week I've heard a friend of mine who told me the SEF producer is now selling a V3i-fully-compatible SEF coil (12x10). I've written an email to the producer and they confirmed they already are producing and selling that coil. It's only matter of few days and their website will be updated with that model. It will be probably coloured in White.

Ciao!

Well there we go there was a doubter on another forum stating, well here is his reply....:wiggle:

Yes that is the only person I know in the UK who
uses or has / is testing these coils.
Before I purchase one I would prefer a little bit more
reasurence form other users....

I know I have said it many times before, other than not being able to use TX Boost, I have never had a problem with the SEF coil in any frequency. I do notice a slight shift in the VDI numbers for low conductive targets. Nickels, for example, have a VDI of 25 instead of 19.

He was asking where you got the information for the new coil and then gave the old SEF a good report. I don't see where there was any doubt.

I've sent e mails to JW at Kellyco and got no reply.

Rob the advert came from the manufactures own web site...
I posted a link to it on the other forum and it was removed,
Am I allowed to post a link up on these pages?
What got me about that reply was that person appreared to
be so sure of his facts and yet not fully aware of any updates in these coils....
