Non Imaging Coil

I am new at this but here is my understanding, I do have a GTI 2500 and ACE 250, but the following should be true of almost any Very Low Frequency (VLF) detector.

If you want to obtain a certain advantage. For instance a smaller non imaging coil might give you the ability when hunting in parks, to get close to fences or see coins in trashy areas which are close to pull tabs and bottle caps. I has a smaller magnetic field and can comb between unwanted targets to find coins or jewelry or get closer to metal fences with out giving off a false signal from the fence's metal.

If you want to search a lot of ground faster you might use a coil that is much larger than the imaging coils, or to obtain a deeper penetration into the ground and so on. I am sure there are many other reasons. Hopefully other forum members will chime in and correct my statements and/or add to these comments.

Hi,i mean the difference between buying the standard 12.5 gti coil and the 12.5 non imaging one.Why would you buy the same size coil that doesn't image, thanks Nigel.

Nigel.
There is no 12 in non imaging coil as far as I know. I do have the 5x10 Scorcher DD coil (non imaging) and its Excellent. Faster recovery speed, much better target seperation and with the mid tone, it's more animated, so I'm able to tell coins from other targets by listening to the width of the tone. If the ground is fairly mineralised, then that's the other reason.

Yeah man, there's a 12.5" Scorcher(non-imaging)search coil. It was out before that 12.5" Rhinotough imaging search coil came out. I use it sometimes because it gets a couple inches more depth than the imaging search coil. You lose a couple inches in depth with the imaging feature. It's alot lighter(not as heavy)than the 12.5" imaging. Aside from that 12.5" Scorcher(non-imaging) I like to use the 5"x10" double "D" search coil because it covers more ground at depth(from toe to heel) as opposed to the concentric search coils which detect down in a cone shaped pattern and only cover about a coin sized area of ground at depth. Also, like Mick said, the double"D" search coils get better target seperation because the detecting pattern is like a knife edge from toe to heel into the ground.
Happy Hunting!:)
