This is my dilemma, simplex + or vanquish 540, I would like to know the opinion of those who have tested both and their opinion is very important especially for the depth. The difference for or against I know (waterproofing, multi iq, etc. ...) what matters to me is the depth because my playgrounds arescanned and rescanned with the x-terra and even winning 5cm would change the game. I have an x-terra 705 with many disks of different sizes and frequencies, so I haven't been detecting a beginner for almost 10 years. Equinox too expensive for me

You won't personally know which is better for "you" and "your" soil conditions, unless you actually try either one for a week.
So do a buy and try like many of us. Buying used will generally see most of your money returned, if you decide a detector is not for you and resell it.

I have owned both. For the money they are both good detectors. I sold the simplex and kept the 540 Vanquish. To me it's just a little better.

Vanquish for sure. Simply because it sounds nicer on the ears.
I have not used the Simplex, but I can vouch for the depth of the 540. It is nearly as deep as my SE Pro. It is extremely easy to use and is light to swing. I am finding many coins at depths deeper than 8 inches. Alot of bang for the buck!

Thank you for your answers, I followed your advice and I bought the 540 pro pack. First impressions, light, very easy to use and the multi IQ is a joy to detect next to pylons and electric fences. You have to get used to the sounds because they are not the same as my x-terra. Is there a forum for the Vanquish? It actually goes deeper

Never used simplex. I had Nox 600-800 sold both now have a V 440 as one of my three machines. Other two are Teknetics T2 and XP Orx. In order of preference 1. Orx, 2. T2, 3. Vanquish but all are excellent and have a place
I have both!.. I choose Vanquish overall...Being multi frequency is the deal breaker for me!....It will perform better in difficult ground & I appreciate the tones better too!.The Simplex is still a good machine though for the $$ , no doubt! Maybe it’s a preference thing but , I must admit I’m more comfortable with the Minelab detectors due in part that I’m familiar with how they work & perform!...Just my opinion!

Vanquish is fine, but I regretted selling my equinox 600. Got another one coming with stock and 6” coils. This one ain’t going anywhere-that’s for sure.
Vanquish 540 vs Simplex+ is a tough one. Like someone said earlier, it all depends on what types of detecting you do. They are both fantastic budget detectors.
If you need a budget friendly detector with threshold based all metal mode and want to submerge your entire detector, get good depth and have plenty of features, the Simplex+ is hard to beat.
If you need a deep detector with excellent target ID accuracy throughout its range on non-ferrous targets (especially low an mid conductor non-ferrous) along with easier operation (the Simplex controls are just too stiff and pretty complicated with some of the buttons having multiple functions) and simultaneous multi frequencies are needed for salt and higher mineralization, the Vanquish is the way to go.
Adjustability and weight are very close with similar sized coils. The Simplex 11" coil is a bit clunky and the original lower shaft on mine had a ridiculous amount of flex.
I still have a Vanquish 440. Sold the Simplex+.

Interesting, a May post that was last used in June, and now it's getting some attention the last week. The original poster uses an X-Terra 705. Not one of my favorite detectors for the different places I hunt. He wanted more 'depth' in the playgrounds he hunts because they get worked often. Best suggestion is to find new and different places to hunt. However, he was curious about the Nokta / Makro Simplex + and the Minelab Vanquish 540. I have them, like them, and use them so I'll add my comments.
I got my first Simplex + last year in mid-November I find it comfortable and the round 11" DD coil works well in plowed fields or pastureland, and when I hit the wide-open grassy parks. I bought a Vanquish 540 this past spring as soon as they came out. I purchased the Pro Pack and really like the ML-80 wireless headphones, and the 9X12 DD coil is still comfortable and has worked well for me the few times I have used it in wide-open / sparse-target sites where the is little masking. But the 5X8 DD mid-sized coil I keep mounted full-time and it works quite well. I know what some of the benefits are of the Multi-IQ performance, and also know there will be times I can out-perform the V-540 with some of my Single-Frequency detectors. SMF is not fool-proof.
I then purchased a 2nd Simplex + the first of June because I was planning on a smaller-size coil to be introduced. I'm still waiting on a smaller coil, but they did bring out some mid-sized coils so on that main-use Simplex + I keep the 5X9½ DD mounted full-time. I have quite a few detectors, to include three on my 'Special-Use Team', but I always like to travel with 3-to-5 detectors in my vehicle (isn't that what a back seat is for?) that are part of my 'Daily-Use Team' to have on-hand for day-to-day detecting or to be prepared should I luck upon a fresh-site opportunity Part of my 'Daily-Use Team' I travel around with are my Simplex + w/5X9½ DD and Vanquish 540 w/5X8 DD. They both have their strengths and weakness, like all detectors, and I grab whichever make or model I feel will provide me the best performance for the site conditions I plan to take on.
I like my Simplex + for some of the mode options and adjustment features it provides, and I like the audio. I mainly use my N/M 'Green' wireless headphones with it because I also use their Pulse-Dive Pinpointer that also pairs with those headphones. I like that and the performance is really good. The Simplex + and that coil handle the dense iron nail contaminated homesteads, ghost towns and pioneer & military encampment sites better than the Vanquish 540. There I am referring to 'separation' and handling dense iron nail conditions. But when I am working a site with less trash and a likelihood of some mid-depth to deeper coins, the Vanquish 540 is the one to grab between the two. Very impressive performance. I had an Equinox 800 and it didn't really out-hunt the V-540 when I compared it w/6" DD to the V-540 w/5X8 DD.
The best thing anyone can do is try them both out for a reasonable amount of field time and see what they happen to prefer ... or maybe, like me, they'll like both f them.
