Night Lights

Jugghead

New member
It seems that many people on this forum hunt at night. What I'm curious about
is what kinds of lights are being used? Headlamps, flashlights? Is a flood better
than a spot? Sounds intriguing, but lighting would appear to be crucial. Jugghead

:usaflag:I just saw a baseball cap at the TrueValue Hardware store with two small lights imbedded in the front part of the bill, with the on/off switch located at the size adjustment tongue...pretty cool. I've never hunted at night but will certainly give it a try once it warms up a bit more. We're still in the mid 30's at night up here.

I'm thinking that a spotlight might draw unwanted attention to yourself..lol. I think the idea is to be discreet.

I love hunting on a full moon night....no light necessary until I get a signal. The I turn on a flashlight with a green lens (less noticeable) and pinpoint my target. Then it's dig the plug and use the light on my Garrett pinpointer to retrieve the target. Works great!

I've got dollar store clip on lights that I attach to my arm band, and then
aim at the display, which also lights up the ground I'm searching.
But I actually don't hunt much at night.. I like it better in the day when I
can see what I'm doing without having to flashlight my holes..

I seldom need it because my ProPointer gives me enough light for what I need.
However, I have a small lazer pointer I bought at WalMart. It has two buttons, one for the lazer
and another button for the brilliant LCD light it emits. Because the LCD light gives off a wide beam,
I rolled up a heavy piece of paper several times around it. This focus's the light into more a straight
beam and does not attract as much attention as a light on ones hat might do. I use it ONLY when I'm
not sure of how deep the target reading is or if I want to shine it on the coil when I'm pen pointing. Sometimes
I use it to shine into the hole but more times than not my pro pointer works just fine.

I really don't use the lazer/lcd light much at all as I can pin point well by just listening to the sound when
my coil passes over the target. I've never had a problem finding the target or digging it at night. You just
get used to the sound. Most of the targets I dig in the park are about 2 inches so my pro pointer helps me locate it
immediately by probing the ground. If it doesn't go off then I re-pinpoint with the coil and know I'll have to dig
about 3 to 4 inches. Unless its pitch black where you are, you won't need to use much by way of light. When I DO use the light
I make it very quick so I won't attract any attention.

Funny, I used to say I'd never hunt at night but now here I am doing it. Go figure.
