Night hunting

Hey everyone,

Can someone out there tell me the best way to night hunt. I guess what I am asking is what type of light source do you use. Do you find it dangerous to be about on the beach late at night when it is pretty much black out in the water and what other means of attire or safety methods do you deploy or use when doing this.

Thanks for the feedback

Gary

A good headlamp and good scoop for treasure or otherwise protection.
Lots of drunk punks here due to bars everywhere on beach. Have a lot of good people but more bad. They make fun and laugh, but I think that's O.K drink all you want and make fun all you want. I'll be finding your loot later. HH

I think night hunting is better than day hunting, just my opinion. There are alot less people, and the few people there are, normally wont bother you, specially if your out in the water. I use the Princeton Tec Apex headlamp, its very bright.Princeton Tec Apex I hunt with my dad, and sometimes my brother comes along too. Im not to worried about the sharks, because i dont think they are a major threat in 2-3 ft of water. I normally will stay out of the water if it is real murky though. The headlamp will also allow you to see in the water a ways. Also a big scoop can help if you need it, and in the darkness a bright headlamp can easily startle and stop people from coming up to you if you shine it in their eyes for a second. Hope this helps. HH

Great answer and got me laughing about finding thier loot. Damn right, gotta love the ones that drink it up. I used to fly planes in Belize, CA. Those British soldiers are amongst the wildest bunch of guys in the world. Could not believe the things they would do when they were drunk........EX: like swimming in a man made lagoon with sand sharks and sting rays. On the beach, anything goes.

Thanks,

Gary

Watch out for jellyfish, they can kinda sneak up with a wave and of course, always shuffle your feet for rays. Arm yerself for perps. Weapon #1 11LB stainless scoop (Gulf Hunter Special), weapon #2 fixed blade field knife, weapon #3 12 GA pistol flare gun, with extra magazine rounds. These are starting suggestions, be creative. They don't wanna play with me. Night hunting is real fine. It is cool and you don't have to deal with interviews. Sometimes over the 3rd bar, my hair kinda raises up under my bandana(shark phobia), but it's still wonderful. My headlight just took a dump, so I have changed brands. The old brand has decided that their's is no longer a submersible. Just changed to a Pelican 2600 Headsup lite krypton flashlight and is around $27, submersible to 500 feet. Buy a submersible headlight. The others are not worth having out in the surf. It's gonna get wet and it will corrode and fail otherwise. You can obtain the light from opticsplanet.com

swimming around, and a constant light will attract them! Use a blue or green led head lamp, Remember Bait fish equals sharks, especially here in Florida.
Be careful out there! JW

Princeton Tec has some great waterproof lights, I have the QUAD Headlamp, and love that Lifetime warrenty, just sent them an AURORA lamp that ive had for over a year and got a new one return mail asap. My son robrcer has the Apex, a bit more money but it is really bright.

I won't hunt at night no way... Predators come closer to shore at night and I don't want to be its next meal lol...

I agree, however, I will venture out to knee deep if I have a partner and a big spot light. Probably carry a good size pcket knife as well just in case.

Thanks for the great info. Will start up here shortly. I will probably try at the local lakes at night before taking to the beach. Who knows? Crocodile?....Hope not.

Hello,

Not a beach hunter, but a "dry lander" with some advice from our night time relic outings.

I found a real nice Luxeon LED headlamp that runs on 3 AAA batteries (I used energizer nimh rechargables) for $19.99 at Lowe's a while back. Lightweight and very comfortable. The beam is bright, and goes a very long way. A headlamp is sort of a cool thing if you have never used one before. Just look and the light follows you head and eyes.

I think this is one on the Dorcy page:

http://www.dorcy.com/products.aspx?p=412101

But here is the link to Lowes with a better picture of the headband (elastic and very comfortable).

I plan on taking mine with me to Daytona when we make our trip after Labor day. The beach hunting may be picked over, but that's when I can get off work.
