Nickles?

I dig all repeatable signals, tones not numbers, at least till I get tired. I dig quite a few nickels. I'm afraid if I don't I'll miss GOLD!!!! GK&HH

I see there are a lot of new owners of the AT series. I wanted to make sure this thread was read again, before finding this Forum & leaning on the knowledge & experience of these users my finds were mainly clad coins. Now that I have been detecting for a year now, I have found over 20 pieces of gold, a good portion of that with the Pro.

But one of the hardest things to do is to tell others to dig the nickel signals. On some mornings I dig 30-40 nickels looking for the finds I want, I call it low-balling.

This is important because the AT series is also very sensitive to coins. The noob I have been detecting with goes out 3 or 4 days a week now & gets $5-$9 in clad every time. I told him the hardest thing to do is to dig pull-tab signals, it's especially hard when you find that much clad. My point dig the Mid-Tone signals! the gold will follow.

But if you're mainly a coin-shooter thats okay the Pro is also a killer on coins.

I have days with my pro when I find several and go a week or two without, Nickels just don't seem to be plentiful in all areas, and they also ring up in the pulltab range, so some people just avoid them and don't dig those signals...Like it's said before though..if your not digging those signals you may be missing on something even better!!

I have never done any research but it seems like nickles are probably just used less in general. Maybe somebody on here who has more time then I do can start with a penny and then go all the way up to a dollar in penny increments, pretending like you are giving change back and using the largest coins possible. Then count the total number of each coin. I am guessing there are fewer nickles then other coins. Which means there are probably fewer nickles minted historically. (again a guess on my part). I know I find fewer nickles when detecting but I also have a jug I keep all my change in each day and count at the end of the year. There is always fewer nickels in there as well.

Take a look at my post on a different forum during December:
