NIckles

i can tell ya for a hard-core fact,, the imaging feature will spoil you. and, save a BUNCH of needless digging.. now,, i don't want to sound like i am whining, crying, or sniveling here,, but i had a stroke on thanksgiving morning, 2009. since then, the ''iron man '' has lost a lot of strength and stamina. i'll take any advantage i can get, as now i have to pace myself. i simply do not have the stamina to dig every signal, so if i do dig one, i want a reward. i'm in my late 60's and being ''country'', i deal with what's in front of me the best i can, and i think i would be dense not to gain every advantage i can...and,,, i started this to hold out,,, not show out....

So, do you the think the AT Pro will do just as good a job prospecting for gold nuggett as the AT GOLD?
Salida

NO WAY will the AT Pro do just as good a job at finding gold nuggets than the AT Gold BECAUSE the AT Gold has a higher frequency to find smaller nuggets(most nuggets are small).
ALSO, the AT Gold has a threshold sound, so you can HEAR tinier nuggets better and also follow black sand where gold is likely to be found.

Dufus

Sorry about your health issues.

I know zilch about the 1500. Never actually seen one. Of course I've never actually used one either. I did use another what I'll call an alphabet detector for a couple of hours or so that told me about every minute or so that the coil was over a ring. All the 40 or so "rings" I dug were not "rings" none of them.

I do know a little about produce and if you go buy those new red potato's they are graded by size. A's are bigger than B's and B's are what I like to cook with my green beans. So when your talking ''B'' sized image and ''A'' sized image" I assume one is larger than the other.....just like the potato's.

My hunting grounds are limited, as to where I can expect to find numerous targets, so I hunt the same turf repeatedly. I dig alot of trash just to quieten down the area, so I don't have to repeatedly find the same bottle tops over and over again. Just last night I cleaned up 3 tot lots, not of coins but mostly pencils!!!

Every public place I went had some kind of activity going on, JV football, a picnic, basketball, and soccer practice........so I went and did maintenance on "my" tot lots. Did I expect to find anything after just having just hunted them within a few days......nope. But I got lots of potential pseudo nickels, and gold rings before they found their way to the bottom of the bark pit.........LOL.......so I pick them up when they are shallow, before they get deep. Rewards........nope got a total of 35 cents last night  none of which came out of the lots.

I keep my tot lots as sterile as a gelding, and when something metal is in there I know about it. Would I go to the trouble if I was only going to hunt them once.....probably not.

[size=large]i started out with the GTI 1500. was really getting into the imagining system. had to sell cause of the same reasons Dufus listed except the heart attack. i found the balance i needed with the whites XLT. i'm back to a Garrett now and find the bell tones is the biggest help. i too can't just dig everything. if possible i'd suggest to Dufus to seel the GTI and go for a AT PRO. learn that puppy and it'll cut down your bad digs. it will tire you out with all the better target finds. i don't sell machines. just pass on what info i learn by doing. if ya don't want to sell anything you can still buy a new machine. i really recommend the AT PRO.
as for the AT Gold. if you're really going to do prospecting then get a real prospecting machine. don't dink around with 18khz. go for the 50+ khz. the AT PRO will find the gold rings just fine. and so far the silver aren't that hard for it either. quit dreaming of what you want to do and see what can you or what you really will be doing.get the machine that fits those thoughts. get the right tool for the job you're going to do.jmho

Interesting post. I rarely find nickles with my AT Pro, or, more likely, I find lots of nickles I don't dig. It would be interesting to do a hunt notching out everything but the 50-55 range. I got one of the first AT Pro's in Oct 2010 and nickles are only 1-2% of my clad coin finds. However....I did find a 1912 V nickle, my only silver coin so far. No thanks to the AT Pro, tho. The Garrett pin pointer found it a couple inches under a clad dime I'd just dug...my first silver, and my first two coin hole..

Gee Cyberfish2

I am going to catch  for this BUT the 1912 Liberty isn't silver.........it's 75% copper and 25% nickel........so your still looking for the first silver, BUT on a brighter note you did find a V nickel :clapping:

Whoops! My bad, as the grandkids would say.

V nickel Cool

I find the Buffalo nickels come in around 53. Some nickels I have found are in the 70's. I have been finding WAY more nickels with the AT Pro than with my old machine.
