Finding lots of coins... but very few nickles. What VDIs are you guys getting on in ground nickles?

Any time I get a VDI in the range of 50-52, it is almost always a nickel. 53 has always been pulltabs for me, but I dig those anyway just to be on the safe side. I have had quite a few nickels that bounced from 50 to 52, and would not lock on a number.

Found about 5 nickels in a local park a few days ago with the AT Pro in Pro Coins mode they all came in at 52-53 on the VDI. I would say they all were more of a consistent 52 on the VDI than a 53. At 53 & above normally a pull tab.

55 51 52 57 jumps but is smooth sound-- get it smooth sound even in std mode
Get it ?
It is the smooth humming sound.....
Works same for preciose metals....
The smooooootheee sound.
It almost vibrate whole machine-headphones

The At Pro does like nickels. I have found way more of them this year with the Pro than other years.

Fifty Three seems to be the sweet spot on mine. More important, it seems to lock right on to 53, 52 or whatever and not move regardless of what direction you swing at it from. Whereas pull tabs will bounce around a bit depending on direction.

i don't think my 1500 will find a nickle. it appears to be set to find pennies, which it does an outstanding job on. take what you can get,, i reckon.

Thats a heck of a lot better than my Ace 250!
I'm still making up my mind if I want the AT Pro or the AT Gold.
I think the AT Gold will be MUCH better in prospecting mode just because
of the extra kHz. I had seriously thought about buying another new MXT Pro but
it's too dang heavy!

[size=large]i have the mxt pro. i find it's just as heavy as swinging the head of the ATP. i don't use the 12" coil. just the D2-10" or smaller.
i have found much more nickels this year with the mxt and i think cause of the freq. more than anything else. i got the ATP cause my buddy convinced me i was missing too much with the mxt. we will see. personally i don't think the ATGold is worth the extra money over the ATP. time will tell.
i feel i'm guilty of falling for hype. i've paid thousands of dollars for machines that do what i want but i could have just stuck with my first Garrett and got the same. maybe. and i think that's what sells more than anything. Maybe the other machine will do me better. well i've seen now that Garrett tech is not behind any other makers of mds. the best balance i've had is still the whites.jmho

I typed the info wrong, I meant to say they all came in at 52-53 on the VDI but were more often a consistent 53 not a 52 on my AT Pro.

nickles will be dug in my area anywhere from 51 to 60... depends on sound if i dig em..
51 53 I am almost sure, they always sound smoooth, humming even
been a rare few times in the 80's tho...

So, do you the think the AT Pro will do just as good a job prospecting for gold nuggett as the AT GOLD?

THIS IS REALLY GREAT INFO!! Thanks to all of you.

Just by reading this I think I can tell who's doing the DD shuffle to pinpoint off the tip of the coil and who's using the AT Pro's pinpointer.....anyway for me US nickels do some odd stuff occasionally under the coil....especially when they are sitting in soaking wet ground.........I had a VDI once of 64.......it was an all nickel stacked coin spill 4 or 5 of them.......the only all nickel spill I've found. Anyways I dug around a thousand of these potential gold rings this year, and haven't gotten the ultimate surprise YET........but its coming!:jump:

i finally discovered that with the 1500, if i get a mid tone and the cursor is just ''kinda'' close to the nickle icon, hit the imaging button. if it shows a coin size,[''B'' sized image ] dig it. the nickles DO NOT come up under the 5 cent icon. but if that bad-boy shows a coin sized target, it almost always is a coin. lots of times the ''A'' sized image will come up with the penny cursor showing,, these are dimes. best i remember, i used to find a ton of nickles years ago, kinda sparse for me now. however, i tear the dimes up. of course, i'll be the first to admit, i hardly know what i am doing. just an old man, playing with his toys......
