Nickels at 27 VDI??

I have noticed that lately nickels have been coming in with a VDI around 27 rather than 19, which always was the case in the past. Could this be the sign of a coil going bad? I have not yet tried another coil, but just was curious if anyone else has had this happen. All other VDI numbers seem correct, and I am in Multi Freq. Best Data and Normalization is checked. I also checked to make sure these were not "war nickels".

That seems a little high. Try it in single frequency mode 2.5 / 7.5 / 22.5. This may reveal that one frequency is skewed and causing the problem.

That's really odd...almost always id 19 for me, as for war nickels I haven't found any recently with the V to say. The highest I've ever had a nickel come in was 22-23, and that was maybe twice. What coil you using?

I get nickles at 23 with the 10X12 and they can vary from that depending on the ground. After market coils will often vary from the White's coils and a reading of 27 on nickles is not a case of a coil going bad IMHO. You have to keep in mind the SEF coils are not tuned or nulled for the 22.5 frequency. Go to ground probe and read the signal strength on the single frequencies to confirm.

huh , if only i should be so lucky, in my areas ive found nickels from +10 to +80 its all in the ground and especially depth for me.

same in my area (willamette vally oregon) from 12 to the low 90s good thing analize mode always shows its a nickle....after 2 years my coin ratios are crazy.....12 silver dimes.....2 silver quarters.....4 silver half dollars 2 indian heads..a handfull of wheats....5 buffalos...2 v nickles...3 war nickles...1 shield nickle like others have said the v3 is a nickle magnet
