Nice Day Today

It hit 60 again today, that makes two in a row and our snow is on its way out. The rivers are high as they get and the ice on the lakes is getting black. That means it is not safe at all.

I went to the gym this morning and had a good workout, a good workout for my old butt anyway. When I got home I changed the oil in the Helix and decided to go for a ride. They were calling for rain today but it didn't happen.

I decided to put the bell Fred gave me on the scooter but was in a hurry to hit the road so I hooked it to the right hand break lever until tomorrow. Gotta be safe now.

I decided to take my camera along with me to show you folks what it is like up here. I just stopped occasionally to take a shot.

This first Picture is of my Honda Helix and if you look closely you might be able to see the bell.

This is a shot up our drive showing the little snow we have left

I left the drive and turned to the left and proceeded out of our sub. I call it a sub for lack of a better name. We have over 4 acres and the neighbor across the street has 18. It is a private area, only one way in.

As I pulled out of the sub I came to the South Branch of the Ausable and took a pic

These next shots are from the bike and shows the mighty town of Roscommon, one traffic light

After driving through town, a three minute drive I turn at the post office and within 30 seconds I am out of town. On the left of this picture is the Nature center where I have turned loose, two coon, two skunks and a couple black squirrels the last week or so.

I had decided to run out to Marl Lake to see the conditions. I have to check the cashes I have out there and was not sure the trail was clear. Two people have found one of them the last two days. Just before the lake I cross the Cut River, which I have written about in the past. It is just a beautiful river and as you can see, very shallow and very clear. There are holes down stream that is way over my head but most of it is shallow. It is just a pristine trip in the summer but when the water is low it is not passable even in a kayak.

Another half mile and I come to the turn off to Marl Lake

I turn in and see the lake is still frozen. This surprised me a bit as it is a very shallow lake and usually is first to break up.

I thought the lake was beautiful today. It was so dang windy that I had a heck of a time controlling my Scooter in the open areas.

There is a trail that runs up the right side of the lake, in fact it runs 3/4 of the way around it and I have a number of cashes on it. This picture shows the start of the trail, if you look closely.

This last picture shows that the ice is finally starting to pull away from shore. Once it goes out a bit more the wind will start shoving it around and it will all be gone over night.

I hope you find this of interest. I had a nice ride today and hope for many more. I really love that little scooter. I have 16,300 miles on it and it is running just fine

All the speed I'd ever need and just a great machine to tour around with. I'm a bit surprised that your lakes still have that ice........clear as a bell back here and 60's today as well. That's a beautiful area up there near Roscommon. Kinda makes me long to get outta this rat race I'm still stuck in. Ya don't see clean rivers like that around here.......or settings as pretty either. You're doing it right.

http://s6.photobucket.com and just linked to them. You can link as many as you wish that way.

It is not very hilly here. It is boring compared to the country where Mike, OJ, WIlly and Wayne live but I sure like it up here.

look like here in a lot of areas. Funny, I remember the flat there when I used to to Oscoda to visit my son in the Air Force there. I didn't expect it to be so flat. Pretty sure where he was they planted sugar beets or something. The wind would come across there in the winter and it was zero vision. Sure is a beautiful brook. Any trout in it early spring? I was looking at your area not to long ago in Google and was amazed at all the lakes there. Boat and fisherman's paradise. I was surprised you guys still didn't have snow on the side of the road except at the lake. It looks like we will make 60 tomorrow. You know where me and the bike will be... Those Honda Helix are good scoots. Honda engines are as reliable as they come. Keep oil in them and they are pretty much bullet proof. They are great on fuel also. I see the bell there on the right brake lever. I'll try to get a shot of mine tomorrow also.

Good deal on the caches. I like those big loop trails. I need to put a few more out myself shortly. I checked mine about a month ago and they were all dry and still had plenty of goodies in them except for one Travel bug with the travel bug gone but all the details of it and the bag for it. Still working on trying to figure out who had it but no luck yet. No record of dropping it in the log book.

Great shots. Don't forget a few can you find the cache shots?

Tnx for post George-CT

enjoyed the pics.went to a state park today, tyler state park.it has about a 75 acre spring fed lake in it,just right for kayaking.the park was built by the CCC during the depression,3 bucks to get in but you would have got in free:)about 80 here today, suppose to be a front come through and make things rough for a couple of days, dry air hitting humid air, same everywhere.

glad we went today, the place is probably packed on weekends.tent camping,rv's and the state has built these screened in shelters likev little cabins but no amenities, but if a storm blew up you would be in good shape.it will get hot soon, nice to catch a breeze off the water.

from the Air Base in Oscoda, in fact my cousin still has a barber shop in town. He has a hundred and fifty acres just north of the old base. I remember when they put that base it in the 40's. Those big old SAC bombers used to come directly over the resort at first and really shook the houses and broke some windows.

Our area is real marshy which is what I like. So much wildlife and it is easy to get away from people. Go on a 4 hour float and see nobody at all.

That cut river is a warm water river. Really nice in the summer for stopping and taking a dip. Lots of small mouth bass in it. Big ones. The Ausable is a bit colder and has some nice trout, rainbow and browns. It is up right now and I would love to get on it but I need a pickup at the get out end. I am up here alone right now.

for unemployed men to give them jobs. They had camps all over Michigan too. There was a camp a hundred yards from my Waterford home once. They built many parks in Michigan. My dad was a member as a young man, I have a picture of him and his friends in one of the camps somewhere.
