NEWER model x-terra

Well I for one think it stinks if Minelab comes out with another detector that is the same as the X30 or x50 at this time. There is no advance in techonology just obviously some more bells and whistles. When a manufactuer gives you a choice of detectors expecially new ones they should introduce them all at once and let you choose. Someone mentioned the Excel and the Edge....What is that all about? They are 2 entirely different detectors. They do not even operate on the same frequency.

I would love to see Minelab introduce another detector with different frequencies and different coils. But to put out another detector right on the heels of the 30 and 50 is just making a fool out of anyone who buys one. I do not think that there is another company that has pulled this BS. By that I mean intro a new detector with two choices and in the period of a few months list an upgrade with just more features. If this happens it is just a "marketing ploy" and anyone who falls for it all I can say is "shame on you" and "bigger shame on Minelab". They will have fallen several notches in trust and integreity in my opinion.

All of the above statements are based on whether Minelab introduces a detector in the same line as the new Xterra 30 and 50 as the rumor has it. Hope they are unfounded as I have had a lot of respect for this company for a long time.

"Auto tracking that can be locked" Not sure what that means. Is the ground balance improved? Is GB easier or more accurate? Would auto track work in the discriminate mode? Thanks for your input. John LA

I say kudos to Minelab and keep them coming you can never have too many detectors. And lets face it in my opinion and probabally many others Minelab make the best detectors on the planet. So they can do pretty much what they want. Be happy you have'nt been waiting for a new Troy Shadow. I gave up on them a long time ago, cant even get one of there older models any more. There's brilliant marketing for ya...

I would like to be able to reverse tone ids so the gold and nickles come in high and the silver comes in low.
It would be great for heavily hunted areas.

Gort, there will a lot of fools because I know several guy wanting the new model..That is why it is a free country. your choice..did you find out what you wanted to know about Autotrac????????lock on GB?

Look at how some of the other manufacturers marketed their units, look at the Prizim series, II, III,VI and V ... they all went out in short spurts as did the Vaquero and Cibola just to name a few.
Minelab Explorer users had to wait a LOOOONG time for the EX II to show up with the improvements we all asked for. I'm just glad the wheels are turning so well in the R&D department giving the end users so much to choose from. And ... most important to me is that they are turning out some fresh ideas with useful QUALITY.
Go :minelab: Go

It bothers me to shell out $600 and then have to take a $100 loss selling it so I can get the better machine. But, then again, the XT50 seems to do pretty good for me, so maybe I shouldn't have to buy another one, it's just irratating. I originally wanted to buy one of Troy's new machines but I just got tired of waiting like I'm sure alot of othere did also. Heck, I'm still waiting for the new XT50 coils to come out. John

it doesn't matter to me what or when Minelab comes out with a new and improved xterra.

I bought mine as a back up to the ExII and it fits that niche to perfection. it is a sensitive machine, works well and best of all it is a light machine which makes a big difference when swinging the EXII after a couple of hours.

How many bells and whistles can they put on a new xterra without cutting into their top of the line market?

I have put together a wish list.......
A backlight would be nice.
A different tone for each segment.
More segments, but not so many that the target jumps into several segments at once.
Exspanded segments (-21 to 60 Better lock)
Several programs patterns and several open areas that I can store my patterns.
Change the head phone door to open the other way.
Auto GB, with optional tracking or lock
Sounds Ferrous or Conductive(like explorer)

Mike you make my point. The Vaquero and the Cibola came out at the same time. The Cibola had fixed ground balance the vaquero adjustable ground balance along with a few moe bells and whistles...the point being is that theywere all introduced at the same time. EVen the Cortez and the Deleon are just 2 detectors and acatually introduced quite a while apaart.

As for Whites you ned a scorecard for them. They have had several different models to choose from the Prism series, some other model that only kellyco carries. You are not allowed to advertise their prices on the internet. I have no idea what their marketing ploy is but it must be working. they have had the same metal box look for I don't know how many years and have gotten away with it for a long time. Of course now they are beginning to look at lighter and sleeker models.

Again my point is that when you introduce a new detector give the buyers the choice of the models you offer. You mention the Explorer II. well it came out a number of years after the Explorer. Let me ask you you. How would you have liked it if you had purchsed the original Explorer and the Expolrer II cam out 5 or 6 months later. I really think you would be a little aggrevated.

Just my opinions. If Minelab comes out with an exact model of the Xterra 50 with a few more bells and whistles you can have my mint Xterra for $425 delivered as I will be through with them.

By the way when Minelab came out with the Explorer II they discontinued the original.

I will take it , better sell now as it could be worth less in the future????? That has happened to me on other models...

It's all in the eye of the beholder in my opinion and a moot point at best. I'm sure you can sell your 50 for $425 as soon as it hit's the classifieds and by the looks of Sonnys post you could sell it right now for that. A dealer would probably give that much on a trade in too.
About the Explorers, I started with the S series and used it well past the XS introduction ... then I purchased the XS and 2 months later the II series came out so I do know how you feel to a degree but it sure didn't make me quit using the XS, it was simply to good of a machine. I used it long enough to pay for a new EX II with clad finds, and that didn't take very long either. I kept trading UP.
I'm all for new "bells & whistles" if and only if they fit my personal needs. In good dirt I wouldn't hesitate to use the 30 for relic hunting but it's also nice to know the 50 will handle both good and bad dirt without depth loss, when and where it counts.
I have a tendency to over compensate all of my hobbies but it puts a smile on my face.
I have a 2005 Harley Ultra Glide with a 113 cubic inch stroker engine in it, CD player, XM radio, cruise control, GPS ... well you get the picture .... it's way more than anyone needs for a road bike ... but I like it :)

We got 8 months left so enjoy what you have now and I am sure when Oct. comes around and our hunting sites are not what they use to be, more of you will welcome the new models just in time for Christmas. Happy Trails 2U

I really think you guys are missing the point. I am all for new fangled gadgets. I love bells and whistles on detectors. The only point I am trying to make is that Minelab JUST introduced the the Xterra 30 and 50. They gave you a choice of a stripped down model (xterra 30) and I by no means mean that as a bad comment as I understand that it is a great detector. They also gave you the choice of ONE other detector and I call attention to the fact that the gave you the choice of only one additional model up grade and that is the xterra 50. So now anyone who wanted the new xterra model and wanted the one with the bells and whistles choose the 50. Now the rumor has it that this will not be the top of the line Xterra but another one will be coming out and as I said before right on the heels of the 30 and 50. I truly believe that introducing the 30 and 50 at the same time gave the consumer the impression that these were the only 2 xterras to be introduced. The stripped down model and the top of the line Xterra. Now the rumor has it that the 50 will no longer be the top of the line Xterra but it will now be a 70 or whatever.

Having said all of that I feel that Minelab will have a hard time marketing a third Xterra model. The reason I say that is PRICE POINT. Where are they going to price this detector. It will have to be at least $150 to $250 more than the 50. You are now pitting it aganist the Quatro and getting close to the Explorer. I believe the retail on the 50 is around $699 so that should place the new xterra very close to the $1,000 range. What exactly would you get for the additional money other than the fact to say I now have the newest Xterra model. All they can really offer would be a possible more segemented disc, auto ground balance, and I guess a back light. Also the ability to save a few more programs in memory. Again I would not have the feelings I have now if it was introduced along with the other 2 detectors but to bring it out now seems as I said before a marketing ploy. I can also guarantee you that if a new model model comes out with more bells and whistles you will see the used prices of the 50 go down.

I guess it is just the way one loks at it. There would be nothing new in the way of techonology just more bells and whistles... as v flex is the new development. I just feel that the consumer should have been given the choice from day one...nothing wrong with adding new features to a detector but not so close to the intro of the new machines. As I said before give the consumer the choice from the beginning.

the one you mentioned which is "just in time for Christmas" and the sometime around March/April timeframe which is "just in time for spring" which is for all hunters that have real winters. Once in a while you might see new relic oriented detectors released in late summer or early fall and those are "just in time for relic season". For me personally, they release them "just in time to get some more of your money"!
