Newbie to F75 SE - Posible coil problems.

I dont use coil covers, the first thing I do with a new coil is to take them off, never understootd why some would want to put on on a detector, they cause so much problems. Mayby if you were to to do all your detecting on nice dry grass in the summer then mayby they would be jutified, even on the beach I dont use them or should I say especially on the beach I would not use them. Unless you actually are scrubbing your coil on wet sand, how much dammage can you do? I have tried the silicone thing as well only to be stuck out in the middle of a field a few weeks later trying to get the cover off because some how dirt has got past the silicone. The only detecor I have ever owned that covers did not cause a problem was the Deus and the only reason I left that on was because the cover is needed for the charger. Mayby if I was out in a rocky desert I would say yes due to the harsh ground conditions and the lack of moisture about. Over this part of the world most detecting is done in the winter in damp wet conditions and litteraly you would have to take off the cover every ten minutes to clean it. In the 36 years I have being detecting I have yet to do so much damage to a coil that it needed replacing. LOL when using the small coil today after a while it got a bit eratic and would not GB only to realise that I never took off the cover and when I did only to find dirty water underneath, off it came and it GB'd straight away.

Yes, I bought a used F75 2 years ago and with the larger coil I experienced exactly the same problems you experienced, it just would not ground balance either in auto or manual ground balance. I contacted Fisher and they did some
trouble shooting over the phone while I was out in a field. The conclusion was that the coil was defective. They agreed to take a look at it and if it was a production problem they would fix it for nothing. Well, they fixed it for nothing and it
has been working fine ever since.
Apparently some of the large coils were not sealed properly and water leaked in and caused the problems.

Good luck.

We talked about this a long time back and somebody drilled some holes in the coil case and laid it out in the hot sun and let it bake dry for a few days, tested the coil every day or so and when the moisture was gone it tested fine. Then they just sealed up the holes and off hunting they went. Could be if the water has been inside yours to long it could have corroded the windings.

If you get it working I would seal that cap like in shooter's pictures.

Good luck.

It was me that drilled the holes WV62.

I trashed two coils in two weeks because of water getting into the coil. Luckily, I had bought both of them new and could prove warranty. Not sure how they would react to non-warranty bad coils but feel like they should fix them. In this day and age a water proof coil is assumed. I actually ruined my second one washing it off after hunting in a muddy field. THat coil sealer is the first thing you want to check when thinking about a used Fisher or Teknetics machine. Hope they make it right.
