New with MXT-Frustrated

maximum RXgain doesn't always equal max depth. Remember that Rxgain is a PreAmp gain, and therefore is increasing the return signal with all its noise and reflection from the mineralization in the ground. The MXT has great discrimination circuitry and doesn't thrive on just max horsepower. Depending on the ground, sometimes turning the gain down will get you more depth as the noise is significantly reduced which increases the signal to noise ratio (a good thing).....And as was mentioned by several others, a park that has been hammered may not have much left. Also, for the deeper stuff you need to learn to hunt using the threshold listening for the deep targets that don't ring a VDI response....a repeatable incr. in the threshold indicates a deep target...dig em.....
