Need some help with the controls. I know adjusting the rx-gain is your sensitivity, but I don't understand disc, and all metal. What happens by lowering or raising disc and all metal. Love the machine so far, just trying to learn it. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Complete Guide to Spectra ® V3i

Sensitivity -
• Press MENU, ARROW to Sensitivity, press ENTER.

• Rx Gain – (Formally called Pre-Amp Gain or Receive
Gain) Use ARROW left and right to adjust. Adjusts the
search coil receive signal prior to entering the electronic
circuitry for signal processing (pre-amp). Constant
OVERLOAD signals (not over a target) indicated by a
low pitch audio beep and display OVERLOAD indication
require a decreased Rx Gain setting. Smooth, stable,
predictable results and little or no overload suggest a
higher Rx Gain setting might be usable in that area.

• Tx Boost – Dramatically increases the signal being sent (transmitted) to the search coil (loop). By
increasing the transmit signal, the receive signal is also increased. In low mineralized ground, Tx Boost will
increase detection depth, however, battery life is also reduced significantly, perhaps as much as 50%. May require
adjustment to Rx Gain, Discrimination, and All Metal sensitivity levels. Tx Boost may not be usable in some ground.

• Discrimination – (Formally called AC or Motion Sensitivity). Adjust the sensitivity (responsiveness) of the
Motion Discrimination search modes. The highest setting that will operate smooth, stable, and predictably provides
the best detection results. Usually Discrimination Sensitivity is secondary to Rx Gain to reduce external electrical
noise or interference.

• All Metal – (Formally Called DC or Non-Motion Sensitivity). Adjust the sensitivity (responsiveness) of the
All Metal and Pinpoint search modes. The highest setting that will operate smooth, stable, and predictably, and
provides good pinpoint results, is recommended. Reduced levels typically pinpoint better, however, do not detect or
pinpoint as deep.

Hi! I've ran a V3i since 2010 and never understood the real time settings for these settings over low to high gain/sensitivity ranges. The factory numbers for gain in Coin or CJ or Relic progs seem to chop the DS and AM settings down, 7-gain, 80, yada yada. A setup video on the V3i started by sending gain down to as-low as 4, but then the DS and AM settings to way down to 60s. There was no actual reasons for the drops after the drop in simple gain to 7.

If there was value for those alterations,,,why? The manuals don't teach this. I'd enjoy the real-deal on the whys.

Thanks for the help/advice to all of your posts. I've had some luck on coins with it, which is mainly what I hunt for. The reason I asked about the settings is because the deepest coin I have found was 5", and I'm positive it will go much deeper. Probly need to try to understand the ground filters better. Mixed mode, and relic are definitely my favorite programs.

You are right....you should be able to find coins much deeper than 5". However, in some places there are no coins deeper than 5" and in some places the ground and/or trash won't let it see coins at more than 5". Coil size can also be an important factor. Try burying some coins at 7 or 8 inches and adjust your settings until you can detect the coins.

Unless you understand the settings of the V3i you will never gain its full potential. I see many questions about coils but few about setting up the unit itself. The performance settings are the same as for all detectors, its jus that with other detectors they are just not adjustable.

When I first got the V that big coil fried my brain, so I switched to the 5.3 eclipse and also the 4x6 shooter which helped me with separation. The 5.3 is my favorite. I figure once I get these settings understood I will like this machine even more. Thanks for the tips.

With those two small coils, depending on your ground conditions, it may be a struggle to get deeper than 5". Especially with the 4x6. If conditions are right I can get coins at 6" with the 5.3....maybe a bit more on quarters and tokens.

Like Rob said, get to know how the settings affect performance and refer to his links. There is a wealth of good info there.
