New to the EXCALL Charge time Question

Crenman

Member
I just rcvd my new excall 2 last week Love it I'm digging potholes in the lake. (Super Deep) I am finding stuff i passed over with my tiger shark. I also love the fact that i don't have to deal with iron. My only complaint is i didn't see in the Manual how long a standard charge should take. It tells you how long for the first charge but not a standard charge time. Any help would be much appreciated. I sure don't want to over charge it and ruin my next hunt.

Thanks

I think it's 14hrs, I just plug mine in at around 6:00 pm and unplug it at 10am, seems to work two long days of hunting. Gene

I hooked up my batteries to a car 12v light bulb and drained down the batteries. When I started I checked the voltage and it was 12.68v. After 2 1/2 hours the light bulb finally dimmed all the way out, checked my batteries and had 2.0 v. Plugged them to the wall charger and after 12 hours I had 14+ volts so I disconnected it from the charger. Hope this helps. John

The battery on the Excalibur 2 is 1000mah nimh, the stock charger charges at a rate of 0.65amps continuous, that means the charger will put back a maximum of 65ma per hour, 1000/65=15.38hours(15h22mins) for a flat battery. a slight amount is lost during charge.(hence a 15 hour charge is recomended in the manual for first charge before use as the battery still has some charge but after 15 hours should be full )

1000mah is the usable capacity of a battery, the excalibur has a voltage cutoff and never uses the full amount available so if you run it till you get the low battery alarm charge for 12-15 hours to be sure.
The XS2apro draws about 0.06amps(uses 60ma per hour) the excalibur is similar although i haven't tested it fully yet(i will get round to it), so if you use the detector say 8 hours you will have probably drawn out about 480-500ma. Nimh start to self discharge as soon as they leave the charger so this amount has to be added to get them full again. If you detect only at weekends like most Its better to charge the night before than charge the day you get back from detecting as they won't be full by the next weekend.

Thanks for all you help!
This valuable info will help me get the most out of my batter to insure some long hunts!
Thanks for all you input
