New Tejon Users . . . don't dispair . . .

I must admit, I was getting a bit frustrated with the Tejon in my first few outings. Being used to the turn and go Silver Umax, I was spoiled with the simplicity of it. Then I tried the TEJON and it was so fussy and noisy. I couldn't get the thing to calm down enough to be effective. I now KNOW that I WAS THE PROBLEM. The machine gets better each time you go out. I should say, the USER gets better each time out. I thought about selling the Tejon - glad I didn't. Today it all came together and it was awesome! I guess I had never been ground balancing the right way, even though I thought I was. I could actually "hear" what the machine was telling me. I felt confident that it was ground balanced. I was able to predict my finds before I dug them. I found a '42 merc, '43 and '44 war nickle, tootsie toy, 1981 dog license, and 4 wheats (plus lots of clad)- all from a hunted out yard in 1.5 hrs! I expect it to get better and better. I haven't had any really deep good finds yet, but I expect they will come.

My message is don't give up and sell the TEJON like a lot of people do and like I almost did - you will get the hang of it. If I did, anyone can.

If you did, you're pretty good, since they had a high silver content. I found that using the trigger was the easiest way of ground balancing, by far!

Yes for some reason my Tejon seems to find more stuff but like you say maby it just me. lol.

Three things that I changed that helped me out. 1. sensitivity turned down to 1 when ground balancing. CAREFULLY locating an area with no targets to balance on (hard to do in most parks) and 3. Ground balance slightly positive and ignoring all the other coil noises EXCEPT the noise made when approaching the ground.

No, couldn't predict the war nickles (im not that good)- I just meant I could tell what a good coin sound was compared to junk - which was not the case before.

That's what my Deleon is preset at.

yes, absolutely. I started getting better depth right away with a slight positive rather than a null GB. I've been wondering about the deleon, how do you like it?

Its the best. Once I understood it, it has all I need, and it goes as deep as I want. Once in awhile the 9" max reading shows up, and the depth reading has been on the money for 8" and above. Its light and well balanced (except with the 10X12 coil which does tend to work the arm). Pinpoints great in the DISC mode also. I have found 5 times as much with the Deleon than I ever did with my other three units.
