New Sovereign Project After today's first hunt.

I like the Explorer but for me the Sovereign is the most honest and precise detector I've ever used.So I'm using the Sovereign again.LOL I sold my equipment and picked up a clean XS-2Pro with a 550 meter on a S rod asm.I modified the rod asm bolted cut and epoxied a stock S together to make a straight rod asm,the arm cuff needs a strap a Home Depot Velcro kit glued on both sides and a cut strap adjusted the 550 meter to 480 also used a copper pipe hanger for this mount and off to the hunt.Today's park, has been hunted and re hunted didn't expect much in finds. The straight rod I built worked nice the old BBS 1000 coil though is heavy performed well. Most targets were 6-7 inch and the S-1 probe makes recovery very easy. The last target was a 480 and strong probably a old chrome auto part. After a plug and digging down about 7 inches the probe gave a good zing.I could see the silver which turned out to be a beat up 1964 Washington.Anyway enjoyed the hunt.

Nice job on the silver quarter Ron. I find a lot of those chrome plated car parts also and they fool me almost everytime. But ya never know.
Good hunting Gary

looks great..

Gary, the two nickles with the meter adjusted to 480 read 385.I was surprised how strong the Quarter hit.Yea you never know. Thanks

John,I put together at least six of these and try to work the kinks out. This Sovereign balanced out nice. When I get the time need to finish with some paint. Thanks

Ron,
Enjoying the hunt is what it's all about .... I'm pretty easy to please .....I enjoy learning something new , or experiencing something that just made me wonder ....Sometimes something like that will put a smile on my face more than a nice coin !!..... Thanks for sharing !!....Jim

Art, this is the original meter with no mods.Tones need just adjusted a touch higher.I don't like the battery setup had to push on the lid to make contact once to restart maybe a latch somehow to keep lid slide in place.I once converted an old Musky with this setup to the original plug, but won't work and be able to use the rechargeable battery so I figure some kind of latch.Anyway ready for another hunt when I find the time. Thanks Ron

Jim,I got beat up on a West Virginia hunt a couple weeks ago but not with this unit. From now on the Sovereign is packed for these trips.By the way the massacre is on You Tube Metal Detecting Gone Wild you will get gone wrong but type in metal detecting gone wild after that and you'll get parts 1-18.Thanks Ron

Ni-Cd pack? Depending on how long and thick the pack is it will put different amounts of pressure on the latch. If it is not quite thick enough, add a thin piece of cardboard in with the pack at the latch end to help keep the latch pushed shut. Something like a piece of cerial box.

Art the pack actually won't let the lid slide shut no foam or spacers inside either. When I do get it shut it pops open. The bag is tight enough to help but will still jar open very easy.Again appreciated, Thanks for the suggestion.

I had that problem with the alkaline pack.No good way to fix that.
The ni-Cd needed aboit 1/16" shaved off the back end.

HH

It's a reversible mod. If it don't work you can put a few strips of tape over the end where you shaved some off.
I think I used a belt sander to grind a little off. Been a long time.

I have a couple of friends who are pretty good with box cutters.I wish we could have gave them an on board welcome that day oh well can't change history.

This one gets printed out and read over a smoke and coffee like a few others today. Looks interesting! Thanks.

Excellent job on building the Sovereign. I don't know who first said it on here but I agree- That these Sovereigns are like old hot rods that can be customized in any way you can imagine to suit your needs. No other detector lends it's self to being built just the way you want it.

I always like to see those silver Washington quarters get popped out of the ground. When I pop one of those that tells me the area has real potential, no matter how hard it's been hit by others in the past. Silver quarters are usually the first to go when an area has been hit hard, and if there are still some easy ones of those around then that means silver dimes are not far behind.

Critterhunter, like the custom hot rod there are still a few adjustments left.I actually like the feel of the bolt on handle cut from the s rod asm.The meter bracket from Home Depot is clean sturdy and light and at 1.65 cheap. The arm cuff strap last minute punt worked better than expected Velcro kit from Home Depot Doesn't get any better.Later
