New Patriot

I just sent my new Patriot off for service. I paid to ship it because I didn't send it in within a month although I really haven't used it except to make sure it sounded off on different coins and such. I did notice that the GB was higher than usual. I did not notice the mineralization display didn't work. Basically, I did a quick test and put it away to wait on the small concentric F75 coil. When I thought I could afford the small coil and received it, when installed, the detector would not GB at all; it showed 90+ on the screen and still sounded of when raising the coil like it was too negative. I sent an email on 9/20 and got a reply on 9/25. I really did think that they should pay for shipping because it is defective and the lady who answered the call said no but she would see what could be done about it. I never received a call back.

So if you buy a Patriot and have a problem, be sure to send it back within a month or you will be paying for shipping. I presently own both Omega models, a T2, F2, F19, an Fpulse, and a Gold Bug, but really can't see where I would ever buy a First Texas product again after this experience. I miss Felix. I was quite satisfied when he was there.

I had the same thing happen to me but with the 15" coil for the T2+. the machine won't ground balance, 90 was it. I bought it from Kelleyco and sent it back and got a refund with no problem. I was kinda glad this all happened because it was a very heavy coil and it was hard to swing for very long.

It just bought a Patriot. Teknetics was selling them on EBAY for $199. I noticed the ground balance is a little stubborn on it also. It defaults to 90 and takes quite a while holding the button in the Auto tune mode and pumping it up and down to get it to adjust to the ground. It is also a very noisy detector, I have to reduce the sensitivity quite a bit to get it to quiet down. In the front of the manual it gives phase numbers of different types of ground but toward the end of the manual it gives different numbers for ground types. (90 is where the R channel phase detector window is set , at the top of the sine wave on a typical VLF metal detector. The ground causes the sine wave to shift either negative or positive and the ground adjustment moves the reference window back to 90 on a typical detector but in this case it is accomplished after the phase detector and AD converter by adjusting the digital value. It seems like the firmware does not work well under certain conditions. Hard to find good people these days. It also seems like the coil does not have very good shielding. The gain is really high on these detectors I have seen the schematic and this thing not only has full phase detectors for both slopes but it is also full differential and uses a full differential A/D converter. Plenty of technology here but it seems there are bugs that still need to be worked out. You don't get anything for free when you increase the gain it causes other problems. This detector has way more gain than you can use and still keep things stable so back the sensitivity way down until you get accustomed to this detector.

I guess I better test the Liberator I bought for a Christmas gift. Thanks for the heads up.
Oh boy, I bought one a while back. Wasn't looking for one but it was on sale so I threw it in order as a just because it was on sale - something extra to round out my order.
It's still in the shipping box - maybe someday I'll check it out.

I have a 4 inch coil for the F44, not the F2 one, that works really well on the Patriot. The FeO2 scale doesn't work but it ground balances well, the numbers are correct and it can pick up a small nugget I got with an MD20 detector a greater distance than my nox, legend, and even deus HF elliptical coil. The Nel snake coil for the greek series detectors works extremely well on it too. Both coils work extremely well in thick iron. Gain can be pushed higher if you lower the threshold. I have been quite satisfied with mine.
