new mxt

you sound like me when I got my MXT four years ago. Drove me nuts until I figured some things out. Monte's had some very good posts on the MXT as well as some other folks here and should be a big help. Check them out. Don't get frustrated because you are gonna love that detector. If you want to really soak it up and speed up the learning process then get Jeff Foster book, The MXT Edge.
