New Minelab.

that the Exp2 SE might possibly be avaialble to us here, Up Overor Down Under (Australia) around and on wards from the 20th of September.

Great. AND if it's around and onwards from the 20th of September 2006...Hmmm......that would be even BETTER !!!

Sorry Minelab.:please: Got my information mixed up.

Hard Nosed Dave

Seriously, Thanks for getting the word out on the new machine.

:cheers:I've heard a lot of "carping" and a lot of "yeahing" posted so far. Not sure why some are so negative about a new machine that they haven't yet seen. The machine seems to me to have a "host" of improvements over the EXPII, and a "host and a half" over the XS. Why not wait and evaluate it before trying to shoot holes in it? (That's for the guys who are carping) :nopity:

The bottom line is that Minelab US will start shipping them to dealers either the end of this week or early next week. The EXP SE's will ship at the same prices at the EXPII's. So once again Minelab has spent the time, energy and bucks with improvements in mind! The same improvements that many have been asking for.:clapping:

This detector USER is far happier with a manufacturer who does the research, listens to their customers, and makes technological improvements without raising the price than with those who don't.

Minelab is a research, technology oriented, and quality control manufacturer, that knows their customers have valid comments and suggestions, and they listen. I for one have to  them. If I just wanted to carp, I'd go fishing. The implements are cheaper, and of course the learning curve on a spinning rod and reel is much shorter.

Lighten up guys......this manufacturer cares!:minelab:

Here is the coin I found at Corfe Castle when I was the first to try the new SE on Sunday 3rd September... So that makes this the first 2000+ year old coin found with the Explorer SE.

Its a Celtic Durotriges silver stater, dating to 45-40BC, Van Arsdell 1246.

Beautiful coin there - congratulations! Question: do you think you would have found it had you been using an Explorer XS or II instead (i.e., you happened to be in the right place at the right time) or did the new SE do something different that caused you to find it (an XS or II would not have found it). How deep was it? Thanks for the info!

You don't find those everyday, that is for sure. Nice find and can't wait to do a field test with the Explorer SE.

It made a really nice change for us diehards in the UK to be chosen to view the new Explorer SE before anyone else. Thanks to Desi Dunne for bringing it to our annual Minelabowners club rally at Corfe Castle. It really was the icing on the Cake after the weekend got off to a very wet and windy start. The weather changed for the better the morning after the presentation and folk were able to get out in the field to try the new machine out.

well it looks like SE has new software and hardware upgrades, lighter coil, and ultra easy pinpointing. It looks exactly the same as EX II to me. Ultra easy pinpointing - well that should be of interest to those looking for an upgrade. I don't know what they mean by "ultra easy pinpointing" but for now I'll take their word for it.

Now I expect to see lots of posts from mysterious people new to the forum who have found some nice or rare find with the SE. Tout away folks - the gullible are all eyes! *L*

I would like to think so as I can't get my hands on the new SE again until I save enough of my pennies :nopity:

. . . .

1) How deep was the coin?

2) Did you or anyone check the response with another detector before recovering it?

3) What were the ground conditions; i.e., dry / wet; trashy, etc.?

4)What type of signal did you receive; i.e., solid / weak; consistent / jumpy?

Inquiring minds would like to know . . . . . . It's a super find but sometimes the details surroundng the find mean more than the find itself.

I have a friend in Georgia that called me after finding a $6,000 CSA belt plate. WOW . . . a great find no? Yes, he was using an Explorer II. Then I asked him for the details and it turned out he found it in an area being graded for new homes and the plate was only 3 inches deep . . . . . . so, right loication was the key rather than the detector.

Andy

Hello Andy.....I couldn't agree more! Unfortunately most finds aren't recorded "insitu", so the value of the find's particulars are lost forever. Seldom if ever are the finds checked with another detector before digging, and even the depths aren't measured in any way except to remark about the average depth of the day for targets.

Fortunately, when I found my Washington Inaugral Button, all of the above were completed except for an actual photograph "insitu". It truly was measured at 9 1/2" deep in damp, top soil conditions in Kentucky.

The 1 1/2" diameter, brass button gave a solid, steady although somewhat weak signal on both the Tesoro ElDorado I was using as well as on a Garrett Master Hunter, and a Fisher 1270.

A good way to evaluate the performance of a any detector is to take all of the above factors into consideration.

Hi Andy

The ground cultivated and harvested leaving corn stubble, and not to trashy. I was detecting away from other detectorists and was trying out the SE to satisfy my own personal curiosity, with no intention of writing a field test

Hi Chuck,

Beautiful find there - congratulations! :please: As long as we're speaking Latin though it's "in situ" not "insitu" :spin:

Regards, Erik

Hello Erik or is it "Air ik"? I'm beginning to like you even more.......but not sure more than what?

You certainly know how to endear yourself to others????:puke:

Your book knowledge seems to be impressive, note the operative word here is "seems".:please:

Perhaps you would be willing to show us some of your finds, :pulltab: retrieved of course due to your superior knowledge of detector electronics, metal detecting, and of course your "endearing personality".

Not sure why you have to act like such a !@#$, rhymes with "nerd"? That's OK though, we need a guy like you to strike a balance for all of the rest of us "trailer park folks".

Wow, Chuck - thin skinned, huh? Well, should I not have your respect, I'm not sure I can bear it! :sleepy:

had a go with the new detector was very impressed just 2ozs lighter, but so many new extras was so pleased bought one Friday will have it Monday ,cant wait .

You wrote in another post "Hello Steve.....please don't take some of our posts too seriously".

In this thread you post a beautiful button and I complement you on the find and make a minor correction to your spelling of "insitu" (since most here probably don't know what "in situ" means - I didn't until coming across this term in a book on paleoanthropolgy a few years back). Then you launch into an obnoxious personal attack on me and start calling me names!

I don't kinow you and have never spoken to you - I don't have any animosity towards you, so I'm a little baffled by your ascerbic words and animosity towards me. I guess I'm equally baffled by the posts from those who seem to be hypercritical of those that do not agree with their opinions of the SE and that everyone MUST go out and buy one immediately without even discussing the merits of the unit. Well I guess since you're a dealer and a paid sponsor of the forum you're somewhat biased - I'm just a consumer and no one is going to tell me that I can't express my opinion on a public forum! OK - good buddy? Maybe you should start following your own advice.

Well I'll just let the forum members decide who's who.

No hard feelings for you either Erik......instead just an old Irish toast...."may you be in heaven 3 hours before satan knows you're gone". Of course you may express your opinions on the forum as we all may.....that's what it's here for. Guess this thread just turned into too much of a "give what you get + one".

Good Hunting and Good Luck!

PS....you're welcome at Treasure Hut anytime!
