New Minelab Models or Minelab Updates?

electricmetal21

New member
It's been a couple of years now since the CTX first came out.
Has anyone heard if Minelab is going to update this machine or come out with any new technology?

After the go find flop of trying to tap in to a market that's not there, recon minelab are in a consolidation phase, price drops on over priced PI machines to move stock, ctx is probably their best seller so it will be the top of the line coin machine for a few years yet !!

Updates??? Yikes, that's kind of a sore subject around here. It seems Minelab only does things that benefit Minelab. I'm sure that any future model CTX will have all updates/upgrades we've been requesting since it came out. At a very steep cost of course. Now don't get me started.... oops, too late for that haha

The CTX will be around for awhile get used to it.
Look in the past and see how long the EXCAL and SOV's stuck around.

The CTX was designed to be around for a while, that was the point of being "Software Upgradeable & Future Proof" remember the advertising? No need to buy another detector every few years, just add new functions via software updates/upgrades! And if you believe that coming from Minelab I have a bridge that I will sell you :)

There is currently a reference to Software Upgrade ability of the CTX3030 on Minelabs' website (see link below) in the information brochure for CTX3030.
How relevant it is to the current version of the CTX3030 is questionable as it would suggest that there are to be further Software Updates to be made available for the latest CTX3030.

http://www.minelab.com/__files/f/103617/4907-0508-1.1%20CTX%203030%20brochure%20UK%20English%20(12P)_web.pdf

Not holding my breath on it and I'd like anything else on offer with regards to a Software Update, especially if it helps me find more, but I think my CTX3030 works very well with what's already been done with the improvements by Software Updates that were made available to install into the versions of the CTX3030, that did not have them in the first place.

Hmm, you must be talking about the initial/only updates that have been provided nearly 4 years ago/a few months after (Oct 2012) the CTX was released) to fix obvious short comings/problems that they should have caught in the first place?

As far as the new updated advertising brochure on the link that you have provided, same old tired/just repackaged Minelab lie and most of us who have dealt with them for a while arn't buying it! If they're really serious they should put the money/effort that they are spending with this new hyped up advertising and actually provide some updates/upgrades and make believers out of us!

Plus current CTX 3030 vs latest/new CTX 3030? If so that in itself is very disturbing since The CTX 3030 was suppose to be Future Proof, no need to buy a new detector!!! Enough said!

It still amazes me that people buy a multi thousand dollar detector based on what it MIGHT do in the future.
I bought mine with the sole idea of what it will do for me NOW.
Complainers gonna complain, I guess.

It still amazes me how a company like Minelab can sell a multi thousand dollar detector like the CTX and then do very little to support their product.
Are we getting our moneys worth? I think not.

It still amazes me that they are other competitors out there that actually listen to their customers and makes changes based on those voiced concerns/opinions. Minelab isn't, and never has been, one of those companies. It's all bottom line with them, from their less then stellar support to their sales pitch. Of course, part of this sales pitch was that there could be future updates to the "future of discovery" CTX. Wait, that's right, they added a seawater mode. Something that should have been added to an underwater unit from the get go. It then took four years to address the gasket issue, and of course, at a cost. Lots of users on this, as well as other sites, have offered some valid shortcomings that could have (and should have ) been addressed. You may see that as "complainers gonna complain", but, I, and many others, certainly don't agree. This company is continuing to blow it big time, from their $10 grand gold machines to their plastic "toy" Go Find line. The future is not bright for this gang, and the fact is the competitors know it. Which is good for us...

Hahahaha. When you are Top Dog, everyone likes to complain about you- especially those that have never even used your product. Whiners gonna whine. Seems the loudest and most persistent ones think their competing machine is better. That's OK, I understand and don't criticize your choice. If it works for you and you are happy, what else is there? O yeah, complaining that others don't agree with you, I guess.

'They never listen to me or other complainers'; and you know this how? Maybe your complaints aren't worth listening to....? I've seen that a lot in the world today.

'Keep seal clean and free of grit, and put it back in the slot correctly'. Apparently that's too hard for the average detectorist. So that was fixed (wait, what? someone was listening? amazing you say). At a cost? Well, duh- seal works fine if you do your part as noted.

"Future of Discovery'; have you ever heard of 'marketing'? Do you believe everything you read? It aint the future, its the Present! If you bought on the future, well, I wont go there because it probably violates boards rules.

Well, since you and 'many others' think it is so, it must be so, and things must bygawd change to make it so! Sorry to report to you that capitalism doesn't exactly work that way. And I'm not motivated enough to explain how a company brings a product to market.

You really think they are losing money on the price reduction of the new gold machine? Ever take a Economics class? I don't know the GoFind sales # (and doubt that you do either), but no company bats 1000 and WTH does this have to do with a CTX anyway? Yet another example of complainers complaining.

I really didn't mean to offend your choice. I bought my CTX because it was The Best machine at the type of hunting that I do. I just assume that most folks will do the same (if they can afford to anyway).
You go ahead and buy what you want. I'll be happy to hunt behind you.

Just my two cents regarding updates & upgrades: A couple of years ago, someone started a thread asking for CTX users to recommend some upgrades, improvements, etc. Experienced & and devoted users responded with literally hundreds & hundreds of wonderful ideas for improvements! Why in hell was this thread created if Minelab was not interested in implemented these great ideas? I don't blame new users for chiming in with questions about upgrades & updates but be forewarned, nothing will come of it. As I said......just my two cents!

I shouldn't chime in at this time since my CTX screen is going and I am not too happy right now...but, I think ML is going through a shake down, they are trying to tap in to markets that are already saturated and monopolized by other companies, but, at least they tried, I would like to see an upgrade to the excalibur, a faster version in disc and improved headphones would be a plus. The Excal is still one of the best out there but a few tweaks would be welcome, I would love to see the CTX improved with improved USB port, improved battery seal, and improved volume for underwater use. Finally, I have a good friend that is a dealer and ML is making it more difficult for the small guy to remain competitive. They are requiring an exam and they sell on a tiered bases but mandate a fair trade price. It is my understanding they did something like this once before but backed off when they saw sales slipping. ML still has the some of the best detectors in the world they just need to polish their image and back their machines a bit more.

I hope you realize that this a message forum and NOT Minelab's website. We are nothing more than enthusiasts, and lover's of Minelabs products. We can vent, complain, scream, cry, love, advise and recommend things until we're blue in the face (fingers) and its doesn't mean jack squat to Minelab. Do they watch things here? Maybe. But Minelab is a part of a billion+ dollar, multi national company. The complaints of a few people here really doesn't matter to them. We are a tiny voice, of a single detector line, of a small part Minelab, of only part the overall company.
