New Fisher coils [with a link to DISCOVERY]

I wonder if they can't wrap a 5" loop for the C$ as easily-how proprietary is proprietary?

You know how easy a 5" loop fits down into a hole for pinpointing? I carried one for years with my CZ and just unscrewed my primary from the box and attached the 5", and used it in troublesome situations.

Talked to FRL on a small 5" loop for the C$ and was told it was a very difficult loop to make because of the way the C$ works. But they do not have an ACE up their sleeve as does Discovery, who has 4 ACES with George Payne.

Why not make a smaller version of the 10.5" coil? The original prototype using the elliptical receive coil for the CZ's was 8" and reportedly had very good operational characteristics.

Hello Mike, this is John out Blackwell, Tx. way and hope you are doing well. I am interested in the Coinstrike but don't seem to hear or see much about this detector. I have a friend that owns one and he does not like it at all. He prefers his 1236 much more. I know an instrument valued at a grand has got to be better than a 1236. Does it just have a long learning curve? Also his display has a dark blotch on it, after calling Fisher to see what a new one costs he decided not to replace the display. The Fisher person I talked to about this problem didn't seem surprised at all and that it is not uncommon for this to happen. Hope I asked the right questions and see ya later Mike. de John the Wirechief.

Hi John.

Well...they been overshadowed for the moment by the new releases. I know I've been busy with the T2 for the last 4 months. Soon get to go back to my regular machines. My 2006 detecting goals include paying for the CoinStrike with its old coin finds.

The Coinstrike is a great focused searcher, but not too good as a cruiser. When you use it in its environment, you'll love it. When you try to use it any other way, you'll hate it. With that said, if you have places that you really want to work over, then the CS is the way to go. If you are looking for a cruising detector, then I'd suggest the Tesoro Golden uMax with a widescan coil.

The learning curve is really about figuring out the sweep speed and how the threshold works. Once you get that down, you are off and running and turning it down so you don't have to dig such deep holes.
So yes, the learning curve can be long.

Sorry to hear about your friends screen. Mine discolored once when it got hot in the car, but it returned to normal after it cooled. I haven't heard of anyone else's blotching.

Try to find a dealer demo. I saved $270.00 by buying a demo model and still got the warranty. I think they are too complicated to buy without a warranty.

Happy CoinStriking :)

Ok thank you Mike for the opinion and advice on the Coinstrike. Actually I am thinking about becoming a Fisher dealer. I would kinda like to find a Coinstrike used that I can take apart and look around in it. I want to see how the display is interfaced with the elctronics. It bothers me that my friends has that display blemish and would like to repair it for him. I am an electronics tech. and enjoy tinkering. I think I will be trying out the Golden micromax after the first of the year. I am a Tesoro dealer and really like their instruments. Well many thanks Mike and BCNU later mi amigo. de John the Wirechief out Blackwell way.
