New CTX User Qs

No tomatoes here Evan. Great explanation of how we can evolve, if we are willing to learn "what does what" with the CTX. HH Randy
Thank you sir.. I know we haven't even tapped what this machine is capable..

I learn something every week with this detector, I will not trade it for anything. BTW I just thought of something else to mention. Make sure you clean under the coil guard, if you get black sand, etc under there it will interfere with your detectors smoothness. Just got my 17" coil today, gonna test it out this weekend at a old park.

Looking forward to your next videos GH ;)

I second that! Been there, done that. I have stopped using the coil cover completely due to the mineralized soil here in Southern Cal that get trapped under it on a daily basis. My CTX is now very settled down and consistent. The black sand and other trapped objects under it make a difference. And honestly, how much swinging do you really have to do to wear through a coil covering?!? If anything the coil cover protects the coil from gashes and direct hits. Anyone banging their coil into objects is really asking for trouble because coil covers do not protect gear from shock damage, just surface damage. Mine was more trouble than it was worth so I took it off.

Maybe my video can shed a little light on your question

Thanks bud.. Had a little lightning incident charging my camera.. it is fried.. working on a new camera.. still have the glasses but need a tripod mounted camera too..:)

What are you looking for. My hobby is electronic repair. I fix iPods, laptops, digital cameras and camcorders. I have quite a few camcorders and digital cameras at the moment that I normally sell for under $100. I have one Sony camcorder that would be outstanding for detecting videos because it is so small, yet the video quality is amazing, and a Samsung that has a massive screen which helps for close ups and such. I get 60 to 75 for camcorders plus shipping. It all depends on what they are. I have mostly MiniDV format, but the Sony is a MicroMV format.

I can also take a look at your old camera. It may be salvageable, and I get a charge out of bringing tech gear back to life.

Not a business, just a hobby. I'm a little sick like that......

lol it melted the battery pack to the camera.. I've never seen anything like it.. but I will contact you about the ones you have.. thanks bud.. good to have help!

There is nothing wrong with "copying" someone else's settings. But if you expect to get the same results they are getting, you're only fooling yourself. Andy's program for the ETRAC does not take into consideration the additional functionality of the CTX. And to date, Andy has not written anything "educational" about the CTX. As far as Gonehunting's programs....

Randy . . . . .

First, what was mentioned is a PATTERN and not a PROGRAM - and these are two very different items. I have never posted my PROGRAMS which are collections of settings since they can be very different even a short distance away when comparing sites. Understanding what each control / function does allows users to quickly adapt specific settings to specific site conditions and maximize the detector performance - but then again that holds true for ANY detector not just a CTX 3030 or E-Trac.

Second, the PATTERN - which are specific settings for discrimination - has been proven around the world by users and has remained a mainstay for many hunters to this day along with some other well known, non stock PATTERNS. WIth the point mapping being identical between the E-Trac and the CTX 3030, the pattern can be mapped over as well although the PATTERN I have shared for the CTX 3030 has some tweaks based on further adjustments that are available on the CTX 3030 and not on the E-Trac.

Finally, I am not sure what the "not written anything educational about the CTX" comment was intended to invoke but I would appreciate not making comments about what information and tips you are not aware that I have shared or training I have provided since the CTX 3030 was first introduced.

First.....Actually, by the time I had posted a response to jakechiro, he had referenced both your Pattern and GH settings. If you read my entire post, my response was in regard to both.

Second......many of these members are quite familiar with discrimination Patterns. And many are familiar with how the Separation modes can make mapping slightly different on the CTX, compared to the E-TRAC. You indicate you have tweaked your E-TRAC Patterns for use with the CTX 3030, and shared those Patterns with others. If you should decide you would be willing to share them with the members of this forum, I'd be happy to help get them set up on the Resource Center.

Finally.....This is the only CTX 3030 forum I visit. I did not intend to "invoke" anything with my comment "not written anything educational about the CTX". As I said in my Member's Message response to you, I am very aware of your publications on the Explorer and E-TRAC and have found them to be educational. However, I am not aware of any similar "Handbook" or Field Report or Field Guide that you may have written on the CTX 3030. In the year+ that this forum has been active, you've chosen to not contribute in a positive manner. So once again, if you are interested in sharing your CTX 3030 tips with the other members of this forum, I'd be happy to help get them set up on the Resource Center.
