 Hi,..I have actually heard some GOOD reports lately from Cortes users. I would like to have one myself. I use the notch system on the Golden but I think I would like to actually "see" what's being notched out instead of guessing. I share in your frustration too many times, but Tesoro has always been fair with me on repairs. The day they stop is the day I quit using these units. Period. I heard about a guy down on Padre Island, Texas who was metal detecting a beach when his detector gave off a loud signal. The guy then dug up a metal detector!!! Someone had bent the shaft in half and then buried it. I have to say that I have never been THAT frustrated but I have come close. HH
Back when I had one of them yeller things I was tempted to bury it as soon as I heard the noise it made :rofl:. Don't tell slingshot I said that :look:.
Hey, I had a Silver Sabre umax, and JUST WHEN THEY QUIT MAKING THEM, the thing went out . My fabulous dealer sent it in FIVE times and finally, out of frustration, I traded for a Silver umax. It's been workingn faithfully ever since. The last time I saw my dealer, he said they FINALLY replaced the whole circuitry and his dad was using it.:ranting: The Silver's a fine machine and has paid for itself, but MY OH MY how I loved that Silver Sabre. So chin up, it could be worse.

Hi SkiWhiz, Good thing jt was a Tesoro! Back in the late 70s', early 80s' I sent one of those "Green things" back for repairs 7 times within a year and a half with "Cert letters."etc and never got hint of a reply. That is when C.O.D. was the norm so we know who was shellin out. Took this DA awhile to realize I should have bought something else(anything) instead of hoping for better results each time.. Oh yeah,Padre Island many years ago made one of the Treasure Mags with an article, including pics showing the arrest of someone and the confiscation of their machine..Don't know how that speaks toward things becoming good or bad now but it sure had some folks screaming back then. HH, Charlie

I've sent several bought used detectors in for Tesoro to check out. One turned out to have crack in the coil and they did charge me for that at cost. Every other check up was free except for the one way shipping. Before you totally give up on the possibility of battery problems, test each one to see that the new ones are up to snuff and double check to be sure that they are all inserted the right way. I know this seems like a "DUH" statement, but I had one detector that went beserk shortly after I put in what I thought was a new battery - turned out to just as bad as the one it replaced.

I bought a new pack of batteries just to be sure and the notch still doesn't work. Shipped back to Tesoro today...After the years of hearing about Tesoro's great service, I hope I can be a satisfied customer. The warranty and customer service played heavily into choosing a Tesoro in the first place.

Just a suggestion, check the battery compartments to make sure that the batteries are a tight fit...it could be a loose "electrical" connection....otherwise, send it to Tesoro for fixing. Good luck with it.

I really think that a lot of people complain too much about their detector. If they would honestly study the instructions and put them into practice or even ASK for a little help, I'm sure you can get it. Only if you are willing to share what the problem is with your detector. A little patients goes a LONG ways to
maybe enjoy what you already are using. So, don't , please don't share a lot of negative talk at least do it with some corrective criticism. Hope this does not sould like a lecture, it is not, just a little friendly advice. Daniel.

I think the op has a genuine problem with his machine he was just venting frustration not hating on the machine as mentioned previously he has bad luck with machines. ive read nothing negative really just some expressions of frustrations he clearly has detailed his issue and several members have made suggestion some that include sending it in which he has done.

When using my Cortes turning up the Discrimination any at all knocks my depth so shallow it is difficult to pick up Nickels. I use Eneloop Rechargeables and that knocks out Battery problems. I always run narrow notch and any TID of 14 to 25 has me digging. Found too many rings there as well as Nickels. I have found a bunch of Nickels but never a Buffalo but I am still looking. I consider a Nickel a prize myself that most Metal Detectors won't find.

Send it in, they'll most likely fixit for free or very reasonable. I've had several used macines looked at and tuned by them and the only time I had to pay anything other than one way shipping was to replace a coil that had a crack, letting it take on water. And that was replaced at cost. They usually go farther with their support than I would ever expect.

Don't feel stupid. We've all been there. I smashed a brand new Ryobi weed wacker over my fire pit when after trying for half an hour to start the "easy zip start" wacker I realized the run button was in the off position. All my other wackers had a momentary shut off switch and not one that stayed in the off position until you manualy switch it to run position so I thought It was a piece of Cr*p....Well, it was after it's encounter with the fire pit.. Good Luck..
Hahah! Man, people are sure quick to smash something on the ground if it doesnt work right! Kinda kills your chances of returning it to the store. That's why it's always a good idea to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS first.

I smashed my minelab musketeer , and then found out it was a loose conection with the battery box , so just chill out let your reason prevail over your emotions, you will be gladd you did not smash it
