NEL selling AT Pro coils

I have the nel storm for my at pro... after sending the nel tornado back ( faulty). Very nice people to deal with. Its big heavy and does chatter.... but my deepest find was a quarter sized washer like object?? (wierd looking) at 16 inches. Very deep in my book. Have to have low emi area and pretty flat ground. Hillsides are tiring. But these big coils do have their place. I like it ... but not love it like my 5x8. I dont hunt as much as i like and never get virgin ground either. I found a union coat button at 13.
My coolest find with it.

I am interested in the BIG coil for my ATP. Maybe a Christmas gift to myself? I would think they are another tool and not an all the time coil. There are a couple places I'd like to get more depth.

I am interested to know how the coil size affects the depth indicator on the ATP. Does it remain accurate to 10 inches and then you have to figure out how deep the target is from there? Or, does it cause the indicator to become inaccurate at shallower depths?

grumpusrb - Clearly the extra long coil cable started with me. I initially started out trying get my Stock 8.5 x 11DD coil made with a longer cable and was willing to pay for a Whole New Coil.

I approached Garrett because they mfg their own parts . . . everything . . . and they refused . . . and have turned down many, many others . . . for the same thing ?

Then I discovered the long awaited release of the NEL Coils for much of the Garrett model line. I contacted Andrey at NEL with my request for a longer cable and without blinking an eye he said yeah . . . sure . . . no problem.

So I ordered the 15" Attack with a 2m cable for the reasons stated below and because it looked to be the best suited for me . . . the sweet 15" spot of this coil is the same as the their "Big" Coil.

Weight analysis:

Someone asked so here's the NEL website address. http://nelcoil.com

Well has anyone actually used one yet? And how stable was it?

Saw a thread on another forum where a guy had bought and used the NEL BIG coil and found a dime at 19 inches.

yeah I saw that site and a few other ones. For the most part many claimed good results with the Attack and the Big. I ordered the Attack because it was lighter. Just got home and got a notice it's at the PO so have to go pick it up today. I think it took about 3 to 4 weeks to get. Some rave about them, some say no difference. I will try and do an air test in the next few days and post results.

I didn't know they have a bad rep. It appears, from mcgov51 post, NEL needs to pack them better. Other than that I haven't heard any negative.

in ground tests are what count.

Totally agree!

All my NEL coils have arrived intact and without package damage, it's the postage handling that make a difference.

Well I don't have a test garden so will not bother reporting since it doesn't matter.

I would be interested an air test. They can give you an idea of how it will work against other coils, and their air tests.

Honest Guys . . . I'm not a whinner but a 15" Coil should perform like a 15" Coil and not like a 10" Coil.
The one I got was so unstable . . . thats how it performed . . . my stock 11" was better by far.
I don't know what to expect from a 15" NEL Attack Coil in proper working order and nobody is talking ?

If you have one please do an airtest on a complete set of U.S. Coins (just as an example) and post
some results. I would expect a 15" $255 Coil to airtest most coins at 15" at least . . . wouldn't you ???

The Pkg'g - It's a little disheartening to see a mfg'r send something out like a delicate electronic MD Coil
( not exactly a rubber hammer ) totally unprotected in a shallow, flimsy, soft empty cardboard
box half way across the world and not even marked "FRAGILE" . . . c'mon . . . this is not whinning this is
just asking for trouble and it also says something about a company that would do such a thing.

One corner of my box was clearly crushed with black skid marks . . . FLAT.

When I sent it back to them almost 3 weeks ago (at my expense) I repacked it with foam and newspaper and
marked it "FRAGILE" on all sides. . . Have not heard from them yet.

These are just the facts . . .

That's the kinda info I'm looking for. I'd like to know if this is going to be the norm with this company, before I buy a coil from them. If I do at all that is. I don't want that kind of hassle.

After the posts and air tests posted on these coils, I'm still undecided. There have just been too few posts, and too many have been about things such as damaged coils.

I'd love more depth and or more coverage. Still on the fence.

Tired and unwilling to wait another 2 months or more I filed a PayPal
Dispute Claim. You only get 45 days to do this and my transaction
so far with this purchase was 40 days old. I will never see the $35.25
I paid to ship it back . . . and can't claim it.

Had I not done this they could tell me that they never got it back and
I would be a total loser as far as getting any refund. Once this pkg
left the U.S. . . . tracking stopped.

From the growing complaints about this coil being too unstable to use
anywhere and other comments I felt that if everything did go OK ? and
I did accept a replacement it most likely was not going to perform trouble
free as it should and / or perform as advertised. So why bother ?

In my opinion . . . this coil is not being made to any kind of high standard ?
Although appearance wise it was a very nice looking coil but that was it.
If you somehow got a good one . . . good for you . . . I just hope you don't
have any future problems with it ?
HH

I've had some problems with mine and still trying to get it worked out with NEL. Will keep you posted.
