OK i am new to this and I am going to be buying my first prob detector, basically using it for beach(not salty),shallow beach, fields and places around town i guess...i have searched and read about detectors everything i can...i think i have my choices down to headhunter wader, nautilus 11ba and a tesoro tejon...i feel these are what i think will do what i want...any info on any of my choices are greatly appreciated ...please help me decide guys...i am really stuck on this....ask me questions if need be....give you best advice....thanks Chris

Chris my choice is the Fisher CZ70 pro. They're a little older but they are tanks and very reliable especially on beaches. They go extremely deep and are splashproof. It's an all around great detector if you can find one. Google the reviews.

thanks but I think i have made up my mind,i am going to get the tesoro cortes detector...i think it's everything i am looking for and more ...any comments on this detector would be a appreciated..thanks in advance guys...

Buy the very best that can afford! This will get you a great machine and you wil never wonder "what if"! Goodluckgoodhunting

Of the three you listed, none feature visual Target ID. One of them, the Tesoro Tej

Hi Monte, thanks you for the info...that is the reason why i posted this topic...so i can get a better educated info on what one i need to get...so any thing at all is good info to me and i am going to check out the other options you gave me...i want the best i can get for the money...i will be doing this on a fairly reg basis...this is why i am willing to spend the money on a good one and not a toy...and also why i listen to the guys that have been at it for yrs...i also have done hrs and hrs of research but there really isn't anything on the net to help you decide what's good and what's just a toy....that's why i have posted questions here...what's better than hands on knowledge?

chris!,,the cz-70 gets my vote too!..just an outstanding unit!..depth,tone i.d,and the ability to neutralize any mineralized scenario.
extremely durable,AND can be hip-mounted to be a featherweight JUsT LIKE A TESORO!..hip mounted, the shaft and coil will tip the scales around 2.5 lbs
which is easily managed!..screw the cortez!..get the 70,and don't look back!..trust me,it's a keeper!..also put a 10.5 " coil on it,and it will get some deep!

Find a club, dealer or others in your area see what they are using and have the best luck with. Don't believe everything you read in the forums...Try them out yourself.

Do you have mineralized soils, if not the Cortes will be fine. Most owners like them. Best deal is if you find one used.

It won't be the only detector you'll be owning....you'll want to try others...some you'll like more than others.

You may find suggestions on detector models others like, you'll hate! The feel, the tone, weight, balance, controls..........

Good luck with your quest.

You haven't heard from the majority of Cortes owners.......not many on this forum. You rarely find used ones for sale. There are many happy owners even with some of it's shortcomings. If it's a Cortes you want, buy one, if you don't like it, if I have the spare $$$, I'll buy it from you, you can find them as low used at $325.00-375.00. I Wouldn't buy it new at the retail price, in that case I would try a Omega 800 as per Monte's suggestion.

I owned two Cortes units at separate times, wish I still had one.I kept a MXT and sold the Cortes because it was faster id'ing targets.Should have kept the Cortes,it kept up with the
MXT in the soil conditions I was hunting.

just one more note on the tesoro...they give a lifetime warranty...now that is a company that backs up there detectors...that alone is worth spending the cash.....

On the positive side, it is a Tesoro and has their warranty backing. That's good.

It has a good response time and fast recovery. That's good.

If you have very mild to mellow ground mineralization, the Cort

Just a suggestion, and that is to inquire if the "dealer' is only that or really DOES get out and use a detector enough to know what he/she sells. Unfortunately, quite a few dealers are good at simply selling and are not avid detectorists. Like you say, it is best if you try them out yourself for balance and comfort, control access for adjustment, and audio and visual qualities. We all have different hearing and vision needs and limitations.

A novice or newcomer, however, might knot know what "mineralization" make-up they have to deal with, but if the ground is mild enough a factory preset model might work just fine. I am a strong supporter of "buy used but pampered" since there are some many on-line Classifieds and good deals appear frequently. Personally, I felt/feel the Cort

:lmfao:Hi findinmyway; WELCOME.!!! By the way you have now FOUND your way.!!!! :lmfao: You are in the absolute best Forum area around. This is where you will find the real pro's.I have 39 years in the field myself.Only pointer I can give you that they may not have is that one thing I know is that when it comes to Beaches of "any" type make sure you have Auto Ground Balance.Ok?? Second step is the Discrimination Ability. How good is the detectors abiliy to Discriminate??? Reason : You want to block out iron and foil and still find gold.Third Step.: METERS : If your hunting strictly water then meters don't matter much. Discrimination is usually handled via Tone ID although some units I think do offer a Visual Meter. If your hunting mostly on land or even wet sand and tidal flat areas then a Meter is a must have.To me Whites has the best Meter arrangement but thats my choice. You may like another ok.For me it is a "very" simple, straight forward, no bull meter with all the info. you can use ok.It is your choice. To me everything else is just bells and whistles and I have not seen much tomake me whistle either.!!!! Last is WARRANTY.!!!! Please read my post above called "WARRANTY : GREAT EWS AND A LESSON. ok. I hope these guide lines help.Best Wishes. PEACE:RONB
