Need some info on the Silver Umax only seem to be hitting pennys and pulltabs

I was out yesterday to a large turn of the century park that I often frequent with my Silver Umax. I have my disc set to just below foil so that I wont miss any rings or nickels.I went to a section of the park with a fairly large lawn area that I have been avoiding because of the heat. The largest part of the lawn area in the middle has no shade in the center with large shade trees in the corners. After detecting the shady areas and finding several dimes beer bottle caps and a nickle,I moved out into the center and detected the normaly hot section of the lawn.I found a pendant several penneys a small broken buckle, a clad quarter, and several more beer bottle caps.I expected more targets to be there but they just were'nt there.Being that it is a public park,it would stand to reason that it is probably detected by other people besides myself. This park gets a lot of traffic. The silver Umax ia a coin shark.I would say that if you are not finding nickles, dimes and quarters that they just arent there. Pookybear

I've owned a variety of Tesoros in the umax series of which the Silver is a member, plus a Tiger Shark. When in good operating condition and set properly, I can honestly say they hit hard on all coins whether copper, silver or clad.

:confused:Strange i did test it on some dimes and quarters and it did beep on them ok. I did buy it from a guy on ebay. I did find one nickel and alot of pennys and pull tabs first day out. Guess ill try it today for a while at a area i havnt hit. Hope this dude was fair on ebay but one never knows. Seem to work ok though it allows for battery test beeps when turned on etc. If i cant find any change in other places then ill try to send it in to tesoro and see what they say. Thanks guys sorry for the commotion but a bit confused.

Well went out today second day out on the umax. I think i solved the problem. Originally i had set the machine to Disc & set on Iron with sensitivity to 8. Today i decided to try this setting that i read on a forum that says to set the Disc at Foil right on the o in Foil and i set the sensitivity to 7 and there was quite a difference in performance with the machine after that. I was still hitten alot of pennys but not as manny . The detector started commen to life 1 found about 1.80 in change some strange mexican coin a cheap ring and some tiny middle eastern coin and a swiss army knife and some othe misc junk. Well i guess the Foil trick works pretty good. Thanks guys and sorry for the commotion. I will say ive never owned a detector that found so much strange stuff in one day.

Great job,Get to know the sounds and you will love the silver Umax. My brother and I share my silver and our clad count is approaching 700.00 for the summer. We have also found some silver coins and older injuns and wheats. It is a great, simple machine. Dan

I started out with a certailn inexpensive brand of detector and found lots of pennies, dimes and quarters in the local parks, usually at 4" or less. When I got my SilverUmax I hit the same areas and was amazed at all the coins I had missed at the 5 to 8" range. I can never complain about the Umax for coins, it is great! So, if you are not finding coins, you are truly not getting a coil over them or your machine is faulty, or alas, you aren't doing something right. Plant some coins and test out your machine. Even air testing is better than no testing. If you are finding some fault in the machine, send it in to be checked out. If not, look in the mirror or go to a new spot to hunt. Onus

There's a real simple reason for lots of penny hits. Few people bother to even try to retrieve a penny or two if they even realize they've lost them. I'd be concerned about a machine that didn't hit heavy on pennies, actually. As to "strange" finds, that's not a function of a given machine, but rather the random pattern of what's been lost in an area.

Depending on where your hunting, skipping over a penny can
lead to your missing a good target. I've hit many a penny and found that when I dug the
target up it turned out to me something else. I have to admit that toward the end of the
day I do let a lot of pennies go.
