Need some info on the Silver Umax only seem to be hitting pennys and pulltabs

Hello i picked a silver umax recently and hit the park. I dug for about 2 hours and hit a boat load of pennys and pull tabs . only hit one nickel . This is a park i ususally go to with other machines and have no problem hitting coins. i had a Compadre it was great on coins. Got the Sensitivity set on 8 and have it set to Disc with machine set on Iron any ideas?

I would have to agree with slingshot
when I got my Vaq I wondered the same thing & would carry my
XLT and go back over where I had been and still found nothing
took me a minute to get comfortable with the vaq
keep hunting

I agree, Slingshot said it "that was all you passed the coil over". I have had stints that seemed like forever digging rotten zinc cents and aluminum snippets.

Well i hit that park all the time with other machines and allways find at least 1 dollar or 2 in change. Gota be the model since ive hit that park with 5 different other machines and found coins with all of theml.

How long has it been since the last trip here? The Silver umax is a coin magnet a la carte and the only reason I can think of is the park hasn't had time to rebuild the coinage-I give each of my schools at least a week to rebuild and they're heavily used and rebuild fairly fast.

Couldn't of said it better myself, if it's there the Silver Umax will find it, if you pass the coil over it.........Great little machine.....

Easy enough to pass the coil over a few mixed coins on the surface to see how it acts. I've had lots of runs similar to what you describe with several machines. If it's not there, you won't find it.

Well i have been using id machines there except for a Compadre. Id machines are pretty easy to identify coins Thanks. Ill try it set on foil with sens down to 7 see what happens.

If you beeped good on that nickel, ain't nothin wrong with your machine. I have a Silver and It is my favorite machine(out of many).

Your mind's made up. Sorry. Tried to help.
Yeah, I'm reminded here of the old saying:

"Those convinced against their will, are of the same opinion still."

With a Silver set at 7-8 SENS and anywhere near the preset notch, you should have no problem finding coins. The uMax detectors are not any sort of 'mystery machines.' Rather, they are basic, progressive DISC detectors and don't require special knowledge to operate. AS someone noted you found a nickle, along with the cents and tabs... so it appears to be working.
I humbly suggest that, at least this time out, the piggy bank wasn't holding.

Please tell us you have tried the detector at home, under controlled conditions?

Silver umax may be a good machine but coins may not be its strength. Will see ill let the masses no. A good coin machine will find quarters dimes nickels and pennys. Not 1 or 2 coins. I had a Compadre and it was a much better coin machine with same concept other than no sens and different internal design.

Okay, then lets take a different tack.
Chew on this; Unless you compare the two in the field, hit for hit and target for target, you cannot make a sweeping statement like, "...the Silver is no good on coins." Far too many people use one with great success for just that purpose, including myself, for that to be true.
Better do some evaluations under controlled conditions. Then get back to us.

To be fair on this-the ONLY thing I can think of is if he bought it second-hand and someone tried to reset the g/b pot and got it too positive. The Tesoros have been known, according to Monte, to have trouble with silver coins if the setting was too positive. However, when he said he set the sens. at #8 he should have heard ground signal overrun(at least I did when I set mine too positive.), thus I doubt this to be true. My apologies if I seemed to be rude in any way-it just seemed that whatever I said, there was always a negative return. A simple way to test this is to simply wave a quarter underneath the coil and see if the response is sufficient. My last post and best of luck.
