Out of a half dozen pin pointers - I got to like/use my Garrett Pro Pointer. Fit's in my pouch just right. Not overburden in size and had taken a beating.
I did fill the audio opening with black RTV and I can still hear it. It was kind of loud. It vibrates also. Anyway I had took a dunk into a stream and after I recovered myself, I had to find the Pro Pointer submerged. I did all I could to hold up a new high end detector above the water. It seems like it took me almost a minute to find the Pro Pointer. It's black color and the sun had already set, so it took me almost a minute to notice it was gone and find it. Still works good. It's been dropped a couple times, I have let kids use it so I figured if it survived them it's done well.
It gets adequate depth detection and that can be increased. After turning it on, I slide a coin (usually a penny) from the handle end up to almost the LED light just to where it starts to pulse. Then I back off the coin a tad till it goes quiet. While holding it there with my thumb, it increases the distance of detection.
Just a nice little pin pointer for a reasonable price.
One of my higher dollar pinpointers does get more depth but the connector gone bad a couple time within the last year. Although it's still one of my favorites, the connection going out does bug me a bit. That's how I ended up with the Pro Pointer (waiting on repair for the other) and I got to like the Pro Pointer. No regrets at all on the purchase.
If the kids don't give it back, I'll use my other one. I get a bunch of lip from them and I usually give in. Now if I could only get them to treat my loaner detectors a little better. Sometimes neighbor kids and my grand daughter can be rough, so I let them use the Pro Pointer instead of any other. Sometimes I wish they could take it a little easier on me too. What a handful at times to keep the herd from busting loose and keep drinks/snacks in their yap's. I guess getting older & gray I should be used to it or I'm easy prey.
My Pro pointer has taken a swim, kids tested and it still works - so far so good.
