Need more cleaning on these Indian head cents

I was able to hear deep quiet tones and landed four Indian head cents. One buffalo nickel that is top right of the photo.

Thank you. So far it looks like two are 1864, two are 1870 and 1883. Still need more cleaning to make certain those are correct

No I haven’t use those. I been using a brass wire brush

Eraser off a pencil it's the best it doesn't leave no chemical residue

I cleaned them up and am able to see most of the dates, there are two 1864’s, one is 1870, one is 1883.

Nice! The 1870 is a rarer mintage. Do you know if you have the bold N or shallow N variety? Please post back a picture of your results - especially the reverse for the 1870.

Nice finds Tony! I usually get a few each year. Most of mine come from farm fields and are so bad I just toss them into a pile with wheats and nickels..

Thank you, I understand that because of farm fertilizer. Some of the farm finds I get are really bad I toss them

No I don’t know about the N. The front is smashed by the date, so it could be a zero or the bottom of a six. Close up photo would be difficult to see it.

PDH, yeah you’re right. I wasn’t getting silver tones so I went slow and listened for Indians.

I used a small block eraser on some IH’s I found recently and they actually turned out pretty good.
Before using the eraser, I let them soak in water for a few days also.

Thanks, they looked much worse than yours when I first found them.
I have tried different methods of cleaning them, but lost much detail in the process, so I decided to try something different on these.

I have never heard of the N variety. Here is a photo of the reverse. The obverse is smashed right on the last number of the date so mine is a guess of the last digit.
