Need help -old patriotic medallion?

Here is a neat little relic that I found in a field this weekend. It gave a signal of copper and looks like copper. It is about as thick as a modern day penny. It has the bust of a man on the front with some lettering below the bust that I can not read. The last there letters appear to be 'ton'. The back has the United States Eagle on it along with the ribbon over head that has the Great Seal of the United States 'E pluribus unum' inscribed in it. There is a small hole in one corner where it may have been attached to something. I have no idea on this one. The site also produced buttons from 1700's thru the 1800's. Any ideas? Thanks for looking.

My guess for what's it worth. The figure has a large nose and a bushy mustache. My guess it's Teddy Roosevelt.
