Need help identifying a coin IRELAND

AndyIreland

New member
Found this coin earlier today with my Ace 250, its really skinny compared to normal coins and its in bad shape. I cleaned it as best i could and i'm fairly sure its a coin.
The below pics are the same but one points out two shapes that are symmetrical on the coin

any ideas?

Man, what a nice find. It is very similar to that coin photo. How big is it? How much does it weigh? Where does it ring up on your detectoer?

I am very jealous!

Chris

There is a way to clean it up but you have to use a electrical transformer 2 alligator clips and salt mixed with lemon juice. The following website has the info on electrolysis cleaning.

Good luck and nice find I am jealous as well!

Its pretty much the exact same diameter as a euro 50c at about 24mm diameter.
The coin is very skinny, i'd say less than 1mm thickness, i've no way of measuring the weight

I will put in under the ace again in a while, its in the car and i'm too lazy to get it

May be a halfpence. I bet it comes up in the copper range.
The only British coins that I know have that shield are the 1 Guinea, 1/2 Guinea, 1/3 Guinea And the 1/4 Guinea and may be dated circa 1786.

I can see the coin more clearly now, and i think its this one

Can anyone see any reason why it would not be this one?

What denomination is it? Is it a copper? Yours looks silver. Be careful cleaning it which would remove a lot of it's numismatic value.
