Need advice on a new Tesoro

they 'dont' seem to be producing any new technology, and i am afraid in the detecting market you do have to bring out something totally new rather than revamping old models again and again.

Below is something I wrote from another thread. I just copied and pasted it in here.

VLF technology has been for awhile and is about as far as it's gonna go. Maybe a slight exception to this has been some newer coil designs. So the question is what are modern features? Modern VLF features are nothing but ways of digitally manipulating analog signals to show the user something he wants to see or that looks new. There is only so much you can do with the received analog signal. In the end your modern features are nothing more than some programmers wet dream of displaying the same ole in a different manner. In the end all that fancy programming can't tell the difference between the right shape and size of can slaw and a coin. Even the best microproccesor programmers can't get something out of the received analog signal that is not there. One of the big things done has been high gain. Where is the gain being done? I would bet without a doubt it is done in the receiver, not digitally. I don't want digital interpretations, I want the real thing.

The bottom line is you be waiting for a long time unless some new technology other than VLF comes along. Maybe multi-freq's can take it to a new level, but in the end they are still VLF. None of the manufacturers have released anything new that isn't a revamped VLF with a different display.

:thumbup: Amen Brother all the manufactures are just pretty much re-labeling there units. VLF technology is what it is and has been for awhile, pretty much new screens and housing designs and color changes is all there is to offer. Also the trend of bigger coils coming on new units along with some better and lighter coil designs and the use of DD coils a lot more for the detectors original coil with all the manufactures ( not as much with Tesoro here). The 8" coil use to be the standard and now the manufactures can claim more depth with the larger coils to draw people in at the expense of weight and balance to older designs. ( Most then buy the smaller coils for trashy areas and other real world hunting conditions)

The 9 volt battery has never been an issue, these detectors just last quite a while on the 9v so that is a non issue. The vaquero was my first Tesoro and I liked it so much that I am stuck on Tesoro now. They make some great machines. I bought an outlaw when they came out and really enjoyed that machine also and still do. I honestly have not found a better machine to run in the iron trash. Some may not agree but I think it is great in this application. I have owned quite a few Tesoro and other machines including some older ones and can say if you get either of these you are thinking about and take the time to learn them you will be happy! Good luck in your choice.

Don't own one yet, but I'm kinda liking that Deleon.
